SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The assistant strength and conditioning coach works directly with the head strength and conditioning coach to implement a program for athletes from all high school sports. The assistant strength and conditioning coach should be able to provide clear instruction to groups as well as individuals while holding athletes accountable to the expectations of the program. They must provide expert instruction in the execution of prescribed exercises and drills and be able to tailor cues and exercises based on the needs of individual athletes. The assistant strength and conditioning coach will assist in maintaining the weight room and all equipment in it taking safety inventory of equipment and recommending repairs/upgrades to equipment as needed. Program hours are Monday through Thursday 6:30am-8:00am and 3:20pm-5:00pm. Occasional Friday and Saturday hours may be required. Hours may fluctuate based on athletic season. Professionalism dependability and willingness to learn are priorities for this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively coach off-season and in-season workouts as well as the middle school program.
  • Work with the head coach to design and implement programming for off-season athletes and in-season teams.
  • Maintain high standards for the care and respect of the training spaces.
  • Know understand and implement proper form and technique for strength training exercises as well as mobility speed development and agility/change of direction.
  • Maintain self-control at all times. The weight room is an educational space and conduct should align with educational standards.
  • Reinforce the use principles of sportsmanship and fair play with athletes when discussing their performance as well as other teams.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to effectively instruct motivate and engage student-athletes while fostering a positive training environment.
  • Proficiency in teaching and correcting weightlifting sprinting jumping and movement mechanics.
  • Serves as a role model instills discipline and encourages accountability in student-athletes.
  • Managing multiple teams training schedules and facility use efficiently.
  • Working closely with head coaches athletic trainers and administration to ensure training programs align with sports-specific needs.
  • Adjusting training programs based on athlete progress team needs and seasonal changes.
  • Demonstrating exercises and drills while maintaining an active presence in training sessions.
  • Ensuring proper equipment use spotting techniques and emergency preparedness.
  • Encouraging student-athletes to develop work ethic resilience and a commitment to improvement.
  • Adjusting training sessions in response to injuries facility constraints or individual athlete requirements.
  • Understanding how to structure strength and conditioning programs tailored to different sports seasons and individual athlete needs.
  • Rules & Regulations Compliance Awareness of school athletic policies state athletic association rules and safety guidelines for weight rooms and training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to demonstrate exercises and techniques including weightlifting cardiovascular drills and mobility exercises.
  • Standing walking and moving for extended periods especially during training sessions or group workouts.
  • Frequent bending squatting and kneeling to assist with exercises or correct form.
  • Able to move quickly to monitor athletes and ensure proper technique during exercises.
  • Lifting and carrying weights dumbbells kettlebells or other training equipment (often up to 50 lbs or more).
  • Setting up and adjusting training equipment for various exercises or activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Training sessions often occur early in the morning after school or in the evening to accommodate athletes schedules.
  • Weekends may be required for training camps special events or team competitions.
  • The coach must also be available during off-season training programs and for team-related events.
  • Works closely with athletes coaching staff athletic trainers and sometimes nutritionists or physical therapists to ensure a holistic approach to athletic performance.
  • Frequent communication with head coaches to tailor training programs to specific team needs and goals.
  • Ensures that equipment is properly maintained clean and safe for athletes to use.
  • The environment must be free of hazards that could cause injury including ensuring floors are non-slippery and equipment is securely stored.
  • Must adhere to health and safety standards especially in regard to injury prevention and emergency response protocols.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED Minimum requirement for entry-level coaching positions particularly at youth or community levels.
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with high school and middle school athletes required.
  • NSCA-CSCS or equivalent certification is preferred.

  • Applicants with experience and a personal training or coaching degree or certification may be considered.
