Job Summary

RN Critical Care Position Summary

The Critical Care Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for critically ill patients using the nursing process of assessment planning implementation and evaluation. The RN delivers age-appropriate care across adult and geriatric populations performs comprehensive assessments administers complex therapies and monitors physiologic responses in high-acuity environments. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary team members supports family communication and maintains accurate clinical documentation while ensuring patient privacy and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care to critically ill patients and evaluate effectiveness of care.

  • Perform comprehensive head-to-toe assessments and ongoing reassessments per policy.

  • Manage airway support respiratory interventions pulmonary care and ventilator-related needs.

  • Monitor cardiac rhythms manage cardiac drips titrate vasoactive medications and support cardiac care.

  • Provide post-operative vascular neurological orthopedic gastrointestinal renal and respiratory care.

  • Administer medications safely manage IV therapy transfusions central venous catheter care and specialized IV drips.

  • Utilize invasive and non-invasive monitoring equipment; interpret and document clinical data.

  • Assist physicians with bedside procedures and operate specialized critical-care equipment.

  • Support continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) when required.

  • Respond to medical emergencies and participate in Code Blue events.

  • Document patient histories conditions treatments and responses accurately.

  • Identify psychosocial cultural and spiritual needs; advocate for patients and families.

  • Develop review and revise individualized care plans and incorporate patient/family teaching.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support coordinated care and safe transitions.

  • Act as a preceptor for new staff and support performance improvement activities.

  • Maintain equipment functionality stock supplies and support cost-effective resource use.

  • Adapt to workload changes and function effectively under stressful conditions.

  • Assist with patient transport and other supportive duties as needed.

  • Perform additional responsibilities within scope as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Current and valid state RN license.

  • Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) certification.

  • NIH Stroke Scale certification (must be completed within 90 days if not current).

  • EKG competency required.

  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU or critical care experience required.

  • 5 years of critical care experience preferred.

  • TNCC preferred.

  • Travel nursing experience preferred.
