EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelors degree in business administration public administration hospitality management horticulture agronomy botany landscape architecture or related field.
Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for a bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge skills and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelors degree.
For example:
1. Four (4) years of professional work experience in any occupation may substitute for a general bachelors degree.
2. Four (4) years of general work experience (does not need to be professional level) as a Groundskeeping Supervisor Park Grounds Maintenance SupervisorPark Grounds Maintenance Superintendent or similar area may substitute for a general bachelors degree.
The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United order to receive credit for the education proper documentation e.g. a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Three (3) years of experience in managing the overall operation of a major park (e.g. district park) group of parks (e.g. recreation complex) or similar facility which demonstrated knowledge of facility usage and coordination; and/or administrative experience in managing the maintenance and beautification of a major park or similar facility which demonstrated technical competence in soil and turf management and landscaping.
Applicable Skills:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of business management public relations and supervision.
- Knowledge of principles practices techniques and methods of turf management.
- Knowledge of budget preparation basic accounting and record-keeping.
- Ability to plan direct and supervise the work of subordinate staff.
- Ability to develop recreational policies procedures rules and regulations.
- Ability to plan and establish a grounds beautification and maintenance program.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff representatives of other departments community groups and the general public.
- Ability to prepare cost estimates and prepare and justify budgets.
- Ability to issue clear and concise oral and written instructions.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid drivers license. The current vacancy requires a valid drivers license (Type 3/automobile) prior to appointment.
