We are looking for an experienced and empathetic Counsellor who will provide exceptional care and service to the MOSAIC community clients and staff! POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Manager the Counsellor provides counselling to newcomer immigrant and refugees. The position works
closely with MOSAIC programs and community partners.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and handle confidential information appropriately maintaining a working knowledge of best practices with applicable Acts.
  • Interview clients about social psychological emotional and behavioural issues and
    provide counselling to clients and their family members at MOSAIC service
    locations
  • Use both ONSET assessment and Child Youth Resiliency Module considering both
    risk and protective factors of clients to develop a comprehensive assessment
    • Identify assess and monitor client needs and areas of concern
    • Develop counselling intervention strategies that assist participants to
      plan prepare and attain their goals and desirable outcomes
    • Maintains case notes and develops other necessary documentation on clients and
      ensure their confidentiality
  • Develop and facilitate workshops and/or group activities for clients as needed
  • Provide required reports on clients behaviours and progress
  • Share progress and concerns about clients with MOSAIC program/s workers evaluate
    the effectiveness of the activities and suggest alternative activities and/or referrals if
    necessary; understand and participate closely in the evaluation of the project.
  • Assist the manager to achieve the contractual outcomes for the programs and inform
    them of progress toward meeting targets
  • Attend a monthly supervision meeting with Manager of Counselling Programs to
    evaluate current work and discuss the appropriate professional development
  • Maintain knowledge of trends protocols and procedures essential for operation of the
    special focus of the program or project
  • Help ensure the development and maintenance of appropriate systems procedures
    and practice standards for the Counselling Program and review documentation of
    services
  • Ensure collection and preparation of project information in a format suitable for
    submission to funders consultants and partners
  • Prepare regular reports for the manager on the achievement of quality standards in the
    Counselling Program
  • With the Manager ensure development and maintenance of systems procedures and practice standards
    for the program or project review documentation of services
  • Document client activities in data base(s) or document and collect data to produce
    contractual reports or statistics for funders
  • Act as a resource person for community organizations who are planning and developing
    community development and capacity building programs and projects for newcomer
    clients
  • At the request of the manager represent the agency at consultations meetings and
    conferences on issues related to community outreach development and advocacy
  • Promote the Counselling Program and services through membership on community
    committees task forces and interagency forums
  • Participate in partnership departmental allstaff and relevant community meetings
    Inservice training and other training
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology (MA or . with RCC) or a masters degree in Social Work (MSW with RCSW)
  • Two to three years of experience working with atrisk youth and their family members in a counselling field; working with atrisk youth in a school environment an asset and/or comparable education or other program project or focus specialties
  • Valid and Satisfactory Criminal Record Check Required - Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Knowledge of Mental health addiction impact of racism and discrimination child and youth development culturally
    oriented parenting strategies youth justice youth violence abuse and trauma community services and resources for youth children and settlement in the Lower Mainland
  • Demonstrated ability to make effective referrals reflecting in-depth knowledge of mental health resources and strong collaborative skills in working with mental health and social agency personnel
  • Ability to utilize and interpret client assessment tools
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing; other languages an asset
  • Ability to deal effectively with others including the ability to work in a team and client - focused environment.
  • Standard office equipment; knowledge and experience with basic computer programs (EMR Word Microsoft Outlook).

HOURS:

part-time position (7 hours per week) on Wednesday. Contract ends May 31 2025.

The successful candidate must be able to commute to our Boundary site at 5575 Boundary Road Vancouver V5R 2P9.


COMPENSATION: $31.26 - $34.32 per hour
