Bank Street College Graduate School of Education is looking for anOnground Adjunct instructor for the following course to be taughtSpring 2026 on section will run specifically for students in our Early Childhood Advanced Standing program.

Course Day/Time:Wednesday 4:45-6:45

EDUC 803: Teaching Students with Disabilities: An Introduction to Disability Theory Disability Law and Responsive Practices 2 credits

This course is designed to increase participants awareness and understanding of the educational social cultural linguistic and developmental implications of disability from historical legal and socio-political perspectives. The course will critically examine state and federal special education and disability laws and regulations and their implementation across a range of settings including their intersection with issues of race class language and gender. There is an emphasis on understanding how disability is socially constructed at the levels of family community school and the larger society. Participants apply an understanding of disabilities to analyze and create accessible learning experiences for children.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in development psychology special education or related field required. Doctorate preferred.
  • 5 or more years of experience in the field working directly with children from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds in educational or clinical contexts.
  • Experience in the field supporting childrens social and emotional development.
  • Experience in the field working with early childhood centers and/or public organizations preferred.
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level preferred.
