About the role
The purpose of the Teaching Assistant role in an alternative provision is to support young people who are unable to thrive in mainstream schooling often due to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) social emotional or mental health (SEMH) needs or behavioural challenges. The role centres on removing barriers to learning promoting emotional wellbeing and enabling each learner to re-engage positively with undertake work/care/support programmes to enable access to learning for students.
Key details:
- Working week:Monday to Friday 8.30am to 3.30pm (3pm on Fridays) 34.5 hours per week Term time only
- Wage:7.55 per hour
- Location: 26 Cauldwell Street Bedford Befordshire MK42 9AD
- Apprenticeship Standard:Level 3 Teaching Assistant
Key responsibilities:
Assist teachers with classroom and student management
Support senior staff in delivering high-quality teaching and learning to help improve student achievement
Carry out work both inside the classroom and in other school areas as required
Develop knowledge of diverse learning support needs
Support individual students inside and outside the classroom to engage in activities and interact with others
Build constructive relationships with students and respond to their individual needs
Promote inclusion acceptance self-esteem and independence
Provide pastoral care to ensure students feel secure and happy
Give feedback on student progress under teacher guidance
Assist in planning and delivering tailored support programs with teachers and other professionals
Provide detailed regular feedback to teachers
Encourage good behaviour manage conflicts promptly and promote student responsibility
Undertake routine marking of student work
Support teachers with administrative tasks including photocopying
Help students learn effectively both in groups and independently
Plan and deliver RSHE lessons to small groups when required
Clarify and explain instructions
Ensure students can use equipment and materials
Help students concentrate and complete tasks
Meet individual needs while encouraging independence
Assist with developing and implementing Individual Education or Behaviour Plans
Create resources to support student learning
Follow Safeguarding policies and report any concerns regarding student safety
Maintain a safe environment for children identifying and managing potential risks
Exercise professional curiosity openness and transparency keeping the focus on student wellbeing
Attend staff meetings and engage in professional development and training
Participate in regular observations and continual professional development
Understand and adhere to Shine Learning Centre policies and practices
Prepare for and actively participate in 1-1 reviews with line manager
Promote the Vision Purpose and Values of Shine Learning Centre

Qualifications Required:
- GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4) essential
- GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 4) essential
