Systems Programmer 2 located in Juneau!

This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 22.


What You Will Be Doing:
The primary focus of this mainframe developer position is to act as a systems architect for the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (DOLWD) mission critical Unemployment Insurance (UI) Benefits and (UI) Tax programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing configuring modifying and maintaining multiple systems across the DOL Enterprise coding bug fixes and enhancements primarily with Mainframe tools Broadcom Gen DB2 COBOL CICS SQL Server tso xTrace GuardIEn and Team Foundation Server.

The successful applicant should be completely proficient and control all aspects of the functional responsibilities of design and systems analysis. As part of the Departments IT staff the Systems Programmer 2 position plays an important role in providing support to all Divisions in achieving their missions to help both employers and the Alaskan workforce.

This position is stationed at the Department of Labor & Workforce Development Building in Juneau Alaska; the building is located along the waterfront next to the Seawalk & Overstreet Park and there is plenty of employee parking. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other members of the team; weekly meetings are held to facilitate communications and keep staff up to date.

  • Computer Languages: Knowledge of computer languages and their applications to enable a system to perform specific functions.
  • Software Engineering: Knowledge of software engineering design and development methodologies paradigms and tools; the software life cycle; software reusability; and software reliability metrics.
  • Software Development: Knowledge of the principles methods and tools for designing developing and testing software in a given environment.
