Job Summary

Join Our Team as the Assistant Planning Director
The Town of Hilton Head Island is seeking an experienced and visionary Assistant Planning Director to support and enhance the Planning Departments commitment to community growth development and environmental stewardship. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the Towns strategic planning zoning and development goals in alignment with the communitys values and regulations.
About the Role:
As the Assistant Planning Director you will play a critical role in guiding the Towns planning and development efforts. This includes assisting in the management of the Planning Departments operations overseeing long-range planning projects coordinating growth management initiatives and ensuring compliance with relevant federal state and local regulations. You will also support staff development work collaboratively with stakeholders and foster the implementation of the Towns Comprehensive Plan Land Management Ordinance and building codes.
What You Wil Do
  • Assist in strategic direction and compliance efforts within the department
  • Ensure compliance of the Land Management Ordinance Building Codes Community Rating System and Flood Hazard Mitigation programs
  • Supervise and mentor assigned staff enhancing team effectiveness and performance
  • Coordinate department activities with other Town departments and external agencies
  • Meet and interact with citizens city state and federal officials and other stakeholders regarding community development programs and activities
  • Represent the Town on regional boards and in community meetings
  • Support disaster recovery efforts
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Planning or related field plus eight (8) years of related experience in senior management or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Extensive knowledge of planning zoning community development and relevant regulations
  • Proven leadership ability with experience in staff supervision and project management
