Embedded Software Test Engineer

Key Details:
Location: On-site in Glasgow or Edinburgh
Security Clearance: Must be SC clearable
Experience Level: 5 years experience in embedded software testing

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and execute software test cases to verify embedded system requirements ensuring full test coverage.
• Set up and manage test environments for hardware and software integration supporting complex system validation.
• Plan and conduct software test campaigns integrating real hardware with simulation and emulation tools.
• Develop and maintain test documentation including test plans reports compliance records and fault logs.
• Perform manual and automated testing in Linux and Windows environments ensuring software reliability.
• Investigate and report defects providing clear reproduction steps and root cause analysis to engineering teams.

Qualifications :

Required Skills:

• 5 years experience in embedded software test engineering ideally within defence aerospace or other safety-critical systems
• Strong understanding of black-box and white-box testing methodologies
• Proficient in working with real-time embedded systems and software/hardware version control tools
• Skilled in test case generation metrics tracking and compliance verification
• Experience using DOORS for requirements management and test traceability
• Familiarity with test automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelines

Required Qualifications:

• Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC)
• A Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant engineering or computing field OR Equivalent applied experience from a UK Armed Forces technical background

Desirable Skills:

• Knowledge of IEC-61508 or DO-178C standards for safety-critical software testing
• Experience with automated test scripting and working within Agile or Waterfall methodologies
• Background in software development particularly with C C or Python
