About the Position

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has a vacancy for an Engineer-in-Training I in our Bridge Asset Management Unit. This position performs entry-level structural engineering and data analysis under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer. The role learns to assist in applying foundational engineering principles to support the maintenance and improvement of CDOTs bridge asset management systems data and processes. The position performs basic engineering calculations and data analysis supports the implementation of asset management initiatives and contributes technical support for the structure data systems used in infrastructure planning. This role will support the oversight of database systems and learn the application of structural engineering in preservation planning and data analysis. The position may assist with guiding technical work for less experienced staff or interns.

Your duties and responsibilitieswill include but are not limited to the following:

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or engineering technology preferably civil engineering. We will accept applications from December 2025 and Spring 2026 graduates.

• Current enrollment as an Engineer Intern by the Colorado Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors ORCurrent enrollment as a licensed Professional Engineer by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors may substitute.

College Transcripts:If you are using education to qualify a legible copy of your official or unofficial college transcript(s) or a foreign credential evaluation report must be submitted with your application. Transcripts must show the name of the school and that a degree was conferred. Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States must be assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service. Individuals must also obtain licensure as a professional engineer by the Board within eight years of appointment to the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Theexceptional applicantbe a licensed Professional Engineer with proven ability or accomplishment in the following:

• Demonstrated success with the duties listed in the Description of the Job section;
• Years of State service experience related to the duties of this position;

• Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and registered as an Engineer Intern with the State of Colorado or the ability to pass within 12 months of hire.

• Knowledge and experience with the AASHTO Civil and Structural Design Specifications.
