Job Summary

Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking for an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-impact scientific project We are now seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Lund Sweden where youll be supporting advanced mechanical design activities within a world-leading research environment.

We are now looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer for a 12-month project assignment in Lund Sweden. Youll be working in an international engineering environment supporting the development and integration of complex mechanical systems within multidisciplinary teams. This role is essential in ensuring high-quality mechanical designs accurate documentation smooth integration and effective coordination throughout the project lifecycle.

The position is scheduled to start in January 2026. The estimated duration of the project is 12 months with the possibility of extension. Please note that this role requires 100% presence on site in Lund Sweden.

About the Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of scientific instruments and participating in the design integration and development of mechanical components. You will generate 2D and 3D designs integrate partner-designed components coordinate installation activities and support manufacturing follow-up inspections and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design & Documentation

  • Generate maintain and update 2D and 3D mechanical designs in CATIA V6.
  • Produce conceptual draft detailed and manufacturing drawings.
  • Create 2D drawings from 3D models and 3D models from 2D inputs or requirement specifications.
  • Review 2D drawings following mechanical engineering standards (GPS tolerancing ISO etc.).
  • Produce update and review technical documentation.

    Integration & Installation Support

    • Integrate components from partner facilities into the Master CAD model.
    • Support assembly installation and operational activities in laboratory and assembly hall environments.
    • Generate installation drawings and documentation and provide installation coordination on site.

    Manufacturing & Quality

    • Follow up on manufacturing progress and monitor production performance.
    • Conduct engineering quality and acceptance inspections.

    Project Coordination & Reviews

    • Contribute as a reviewer within the mechanical engineering discipline.
    • Document present and communicate engineering work clearly and effectively.
    • Manage and prioritize tasks independently.

      What Were Looking For

      • Higher Technical or University engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
      • Knowledge of basic mechanical engineering principles
      • Excellent oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other European languages is an advantage.
      • Minimum 2 years of mechanical CAD design engineering experience.
      • Minimum 1 year of CATIA design experience.
      • Experience with additive or composite manufacturing.
      • Experience with epoxy-based coating applications.
      • Experience in tooling design.
      • Knowledge of design maturity versioning and release processes.
      • Experience with GD&T and its application to production drawings.
      • Experience with maintenance and installation drawings.
      • Experience with technical documentation and configuration management.
      • Previous work in a scientific or research facility is an advantage.
      • Experience designing mechanical systems for accelerator or detector environments is an asset.
      • Knowledge in any of the following areas is beneficial: radiation background vacuum pressure gas flow magnetic fields low-frequency RF high temperature cryogenic systems electrical/electronic environments.
      • Experience with mechanical design supervision.
      • Experience from Acceptance Testing is a plus.
