Job Summary: The Radiology Interventional Technologist performs advanced invasive imaging procedures under the direction of a Radiologist to support diagnosis and treatment of complex medical conditions. This role includes preparing patients equipment and sterile fields for interventional studies while ensuring safe accurate imaging. The technologist works in a high-acuity environment and is expected to be proficient in IR procedures radiation safety and collaborative patient care. This is a 40-hour/week Monday Friday 8:00 AM 4:30 PM 13-week contract position.
Responsibilities
Explain interventional radiology procedures and prepare patients physically and emotionally.
Obtain and verify patient medical history relevant to IR procedures.
Prepare and administer prescribed contrast media medications and IV solutions according to protocol.
Review clinical orders analyze anatomy and set up equipment in accordance with procedural requirements.
Assist Radiologists during complex invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Set up and maintain sterile fields instruments monitors pressure injectors and imaging systems.
Maintain adequate inventory of sterile supplies catheters needles and related items; replenish as needed.
Continuously assess patient status before during and after procedures.
Operate imaging equipment manually to capture accurate diagnostic images while following ALARA radiation safety standards.
Troubleshoot and resolve PACS image exceptions; ensure timely and accurate image delivery.
Complete all required RIS indexing steps (study begin study end completion).
Confirm protocols with Radiologist when needed before executing procedures.
Provide training assistance to new staff or students assigned to the division.
Perform quality assurance activities in accordance with department procedures.
Document clinical and procedural information accurately in the medical record and radiology systems.
Demonstrate consistent professional standards including communication teamwork timeliness positivity and respect for diversity.
Utilize independent judgment in selecting imaging techniques patient positioning and maintaining safety practices.
Perform related duties as assigned per departmental protocols.
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum 3 years of interventional radiology experience Required
Experience in a Level 1 Trauma Facility Required
Cath Lab experience Required
Competent in sterile technique contrast administration invasive procedures and radiation safety
Strong ability to assess patients and respond appropriately during IR procedures
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Ability to function in a high-acuity fast-paced IR environment
Education: Graduated in Radiologic Technology program
Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) Required
ARRT Registration Required with advanced certification in one of the following:
Cardiac-Interventional Radiography (CI)
Vascular-Interventional Radiography (VI)
Cardiovascular-Interventional Radiography (CV)
License: Must maintain active ARRT certification and applicable state regulatory requirements
