The Field Guide is responsible for conducting high-quality guided game drives and bush walks ensuring guest safety comfort and education at all times. The role requires a professional enthusiastic and conservation-minded individual with strong communication skills and a passion for the natural environment.
- Conduct morning and afternoon game drives walking safaris and interpretive bush experiences.
Deliver engaging accurate and inspiring information on wildlife ecology conservation and the cultural landscape.
Build rapport with guests anticipating their needs to enhance their overall lodge experience.
Host guests during meals and lodge activities as required.
Conduct risk assessments before activities and manage safety in potentially dangerous wildlife situations.
Conduct daily vehicle checks and ensure game drive vehicles are clean safe and fully fueled.
Care for all field equipment: radios rifles (if applicable) binoculars spotlight and first aid kits.
Report maintenance issues immediately and keep logs updated.
Requirements
Nature Site Guide (NQF2 or FGASA Apprentice Field Guide)
Valid First Aid (Level 1 or higher).
DEAT Registration (or ability to obtain).
Valid drivers licence and PDP.
Rifle handling and SAPS competency (advantage or required depending on lodge policy).
Previous experience guiding in a Big 5 or similar reserve (preferred).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Physically fit and able to conduct walking safaris.
Passion for hospitality wildlife guest interaction and conservation.
