REPORTS TO: LOGISTICS AND FLEET MANAGER
Position Summary
He will be responsible for the safe timely and efficient transportation of furniture materials and company personnel as required. The role ensures proper handling loading and delivery of furniture products to customers and showrooms while maintaining excellent customer service and adherence to company policies safety standards and traffic regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate company vehicles to transport furniture raw materials and staff as directed.
- Ensure proper loading securing and unloading of furniture to prevent damage during transit.
- Carry out delivery schedules ensuring timely delivery to clients outlets and project sites.
- Inspect vehicles daily for mechanical issues cleanliness and fuel requirements and report any faults for repair.
- Maintain accurate delivery records logbooks and documentation.
- Assist in assembling or positioning furniture at the clients premises when required.
- Adhere to all road traffic rules safety policies and company guidelines.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service when interacting with clients.
- Ensure vehicles are kept clean presentable and roadworthy at all times.
- Perform minor vehicle maintenance and coordinate major repairs with the workshop.
- Support warehouse and logistics operations when not driving including loading unloading and stock handling.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
- On timely delivery: 100% of deliveries to be completed within the promised scheduled time window.
- Delivery Accuracy: 100% of orders delivered i.e. correct items in the right quantities without errors omissions or mix-ups (delivered to the right customer).
- Furniture Handling: Zero damages caused by improper loading/unloading or handling and during delivery.
- Vehicle Cleanliness & maintenance: Keeping the vehicle clean and presentable by washing it 3 days a week both in and out conducting maintenance vehicle checks and meeting vehicle service appointments every 3 months to have them in good working order.
- Fuel Efficiency: Work within the monthly fuel consumption budget per route/ vehicle type.
- Safety Compliance: Zero major traffic violations or accidents attributable to negligence.
- Customer Satisfaction: Minimum 90% positive feedback rating from clients on professionalism courtesy and delivery handling.
- Paperwork and documentation: 100% accuracy in logbooks delivery notes milage and expense reports plus any other related records and related records.
- Attendance & Punctuality: At least 95% on-time reporting for scheduled shifts.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or equivalent minimum academic qualification.
- Training in defensive driving and vehicle maintenance is an added advantage.
Licensing & Certification:
- Valid driving license for both light and heavy trucks (Classes B C or equivalent).
- Clean driving record.
- Defensive Driving Certificate and/or First Aid Certification is desirable.
Experience:
- Minimum of 35 years proven experience driving both light and heavy trucks preferably in the retail logistics or furniture industry.
- Demonstrated experience in long-distance and urban deliveries including safe navigation of challenging routes.
- Familiarity with loading securing and offloading fragile and bulky items such as furniture.
- Experience in conducting basic vehicle checks and preventive maintenance.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong knowledge of road safety regulations traffic laws and vehicle operation standards.
- Good physical stamina to handle lifting and movement of furniture items when required.
- Strong time management and organisational skills to ensure timely deliveries.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with customers and team members professionally.
