Job Summary
Shawsheen Valley Technical High School is seeking a dedicated and skilled Brazilian Portuguese Interpreter/Translator to support our school district in bridging communication gaps between Brazilian Portuguese-speaking students parents and staff members. As a Brazilian Portuguese Interpreter/Translator you will play a crucial role in ensuring effective communication and understanding within our diverse educational the role you will be called upon for scheduled school events and meetings including (but not limited to) matters such as IEPs Student Success Plans and Parent/Guardian-Teacher : Proficiency in both Brazilian Portuguese and English with exceptional oral and written communication skills in both languages. Must successfully complete the Brazilian Portuguese Language assessment with a score of Level 10 or higher. Previous experience as an interpreter and translator preferably within an educational setting. Familiarity with education-related terminology in both Brazilian Portuguese and English. Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Excellent time management and organizational skills to handle assignments on short notice. Demonstrated professionalism and discretion when dealing with confidential Job Functions:1. Interpretation: Provide accurate and clear interpretation services during meetings parent-teacher conferences classroom activities and various school events. Facilitate communication between Brazilian Portuguese-speaking parents and English-speaking staff. Interpret in real-time ensuring that the intended message tone and context are conveyed accurately.2. Translation: Translate written materials such as letters forms educational documents and announcements from English to Brazilian Portuguese and vice versa. Maintain consistency in terminology and language style to ensure clear understanding across translations.3. Parent and Community Engagement: Act as a cultural liaison between Brazilian Portuguese-speaking parents and the school helping to bridge any cultural gaps that may arise. Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events to provide interpretation services as needed.4. Confidentiality and Professionalism: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive information shared during interpretation and translation assignments. Uphold a professional and respectful demeanor at all times adhering to ethical standards of the interpreting and translating profession.5. Flexibility: Be available on an on-call basis. Adapt to various school settings grade levels and subject matters as needed.
