Job Description Summary
Under the direction of the Vice President of Instruction the Division Dean or the Department Chair of Child Development the incumbent will teach Child Development courses. As a Child Development Instructor will teach assigned courses in the Child Development area. Teaching assignments may include a combination of day evening and weekend hours.

Desirable Qualifications
Bilingual in Spanish and/or Cantonese. Experience directing a preschool program or laboratory school. Experience teaching at a college level with a diverse student population. Experience teaching in learning communities/cohorts.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Possession of a Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in child development early child education human development home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education; OR 2. Possession of a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in any of the above; AND Possession of a Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in social work educational supervision elementary education special education psychology bilingual/bicultural education life management/home economics family life studies or family and consumer studies; OR 3. May submit a fully satisfied lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing service to teach courses in Child Development. (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1 1990). OR 4. The equivalent qualifications. (Candidates who claim equivalency must provide conclusive evidence as clear and reliable on the college transcripts as required on the District Equivalency Application Form. Refer to the Equivalency Procedures below. This is not a process to waive the minimum qualifications.) 5. Applicant must have demonstrated cultural competency sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college staff faculty and students.
