Job Summary

Description / Position Overview

Streets District Supervisor - Drainage

The City of Colorado Springs Public Works Department is seeking a Streets District Supervisor (Drainage) to lead drainage operations and maintenance for the Citys street this key role youll supervise drainage projects (channel and pond maintenance stormwater infrastructure repair) as well as concrete and street maintenance programs. This includes pothole patching unimproved roadway maintenance street sweeping winter operations material recycling emergency response and pavement management assessment. You will also collaborate with other departments and programs to ensure high-quality public infrastructure maintenance across the community.

*This position is subject to budget-required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year and any furloughs subsequently approved.*


As a Streets District Supervisor you will:
  • Program & Project Oversight:

    • Supervise and coordinate drainage concrete and roadway maintenance projects to ensure quality efficiency and compliance with regulations.

    • Conduct job site inspections and monitor workflow final products and methods to ensure safety and proper use of public funds.

    • Participate in the development and implementation of goals objectives and policies for roadway and drainage operations.

    • Assist in preparing specifications and contracts for maintenance services and equipment acquisitions.

    • Ensure compliance with all applicable local state and federal permit requirements.

  • Team Leadership & Staff Development:

    • Select train supervise and evaluate maintenance personnel.

    • Provide direction coaching and motivation to staff while fostering teamwork and accountability.

    • Identify and resolve problems correct deficiencies and promote safe work practices.

    • Prepare reports correspondence and documentation using computer systems and software applications.

  • Coordination & Communication:

    • Coordinate assigned activities with other departments outside agencies organizations and the public.

    • Provide accurate information and resolve complaints problems and concerns from stakeholders.

    • Represent the Public Works Department at professional group meetings or committees staying current on new developments in roadway and drainage maintenance.

Relevant Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.

  • Operational characteristics services and activities of roadway and drainage programs.

  • Equipment materials chemicals and supplies used in construction and maintenance.

  • Pertinent federal state and local laws codes and regulations.

  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.


Abilities to:
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Coordinate and execute snow removal operations.

  • Interpret and enforce policies rules ordinances and regulations.

  • Interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings.

  • Prepare and administer program budgets.

  • Prepare clear and concise reports.

  • Safely operate assigned vehicles and equipment.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience:Five (5) years of full-time experience indrainage infrastructuremaintenance or a related field including one (1) year of lead and/or supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in construction management.
  • Experience with design methods materials and equipment used in infrastructure maintenance.
  • Experience managing operations in compliance with the MS4 (Municipal Separate Stormwater Sewer System) Permit.
  • Experience coordinating and applying for permits through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Possess Permanent Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMP) Inspection and Maintenance certification.
