Job Description

RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal Quebec the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
Poetics in Clinical Practice explores the dominant narratives metaphors and framings in contemporary institutional youth mental health discourses particularly at key moments such as diagnosis prescription and de-prescription. These critical often under-examined junctures where clinicians often use narrative framing metaphor and future-oriented language shape youth experiences of distress. The study also investigates how youth parents and clinicians relate to these narratives and their impact on youth identity agency and self-development (self-concept selfhood and sense of self).

The junior research assistant will report to the PI and be responsible for participant recruitment data collection and data analysis. They will have the opportunity to contribute to the dissemination of results via publications reports and conference presentations. They may also participate in and/or be requested to contribute to the PIs other research projects (Inuit Youth Futures and the deprescription project) including administrative-support tasks.


General Duties
-Work with the principal investigator and research team to conduct a project focused on how language narratives and metaphors are used in everyday clinical practice
-Recruit and screen participants for various stages of the project (non-participant observation advisory groups focus groups)
-Collect research data
-Liaise with external collaborators
-Engage in administrative duties related to project
-Assist with data analysis
-Assist with reports manuscripts and grant applications.
-Contribute to the PIs other research projects which could include literature reviews the co-development of a culturally appropriate intervention program preparing presentations. taking field notes assist in preparation of reports and applications manuscripts and related administrative support tasks.

Required Skills

Excellent English spoken and written French should at least be conversational.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Attention to detail and accuracy
Project management skills
Ability to work independently or with teams with minimum supervision
Problem assessment and problem-solving abilities
Knowledge of Word Excel and Outlook.

Additional information

Status: Temporary part-time. 20 hours/week
Pay Scale: $19.22 - $28.82/hour. Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Variable Schedule
Work Site: Hybrid
