On 1 January 2026 Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service Peninsula Health Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health a newly merged health service with more than 22000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce providing new training education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026 all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

The Department

Alfred Healths Physiotherapy Department provides acute physiotherapy services to the patients of The Alfred and Sandringham Hospital and subacute physiotherapy services to Caulfield Hospital.

The acute physiotherapy service is organised into five functional streams namely: Intensive Care Musculoskeletal Respiratory PAN (Progressive Illness Aged Care and Neurosciences) and first four streams are located at The Alfred site with the fifth and latter streams based at the Sandringham site. The physiotherapy service provides acute clinical services and expertise in the following areas: intensive care cardiothoracic surgery general surgery orthopaedics trauma burns lung transplantation cystic fibrosis pulmonary rehabilitation neurology and neurosurgery infectious diseases haematology/oncology general medicine haemophilia and emergency.

The Physiotherapy service at Caulfield Hospital provides an extensive range of inpatient and ambulatory services in the areas of rehabilitation aged care and residential care services. The Physiotherapy Service provides subacute clinical services and expertise in the following areas: neurology non-traumatic spinal cord injury orthopaedics amputees burns complex regional pain cardiac rehabilitation aged care transitional care and aged psychiatry. The physiotherapy department is organised into functional streams: Neurological Rehabilitation Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Health of Older Persons (HOP) and Alfred Health Physiotherapy Department has more than 100 EFT and employs over 170 staff. The physiotherapy service has a proud history of clinical and academic remains strongly committed to further pursuing excellence in physiotherapy through clinical research. The Alfred Health Physiotherapy Department is a major partner in the Alfred Health Physiotherapy Clinical Schools for both La Trobe and Monash Universities and in this role provides core and elective clinical placements for more than 50 undergraduate physiotherapy students

The Position Summary

The Grade 1 Physiotherapist will be involved in rotations across The Alfred Caulfield and Sandringham Hospital position is one of >30 Grade 1 physiotherapy positions which are located at The Alfred Caulfield and Sandringham with 1 position being a rural secondment to Alice position will rotate across all clinical areas serviced by the Alfred Health Physiotherapy Service and will also be involved in the provision of an after-hours weekend and public holiday service. The Grade 1 will work closely with the relevant Grade 2 3 or 4 physiotherapists to ensure the provision of best-practice patient care and the achievement of maximal operational Grade 1 physiotherapist will contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the physiotherapy service by taking on an identified portfolio. The portfolio may be clinical operational research or quality improvement in nature.

Skills/Qualifications Required

  • Current and unrestricted registration with AHPRA
  • Responsible for the delivery of physiotherapy services to the designated units in consultation with a senior physiotherapist.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage a caseload
  • Demonstrated initiative in a clinical setting
