TRANSITIONAL HOUSING SUPPORT WORKER


4 Full Time Term Vacancies to March 31 2026


SUMMARY:
The Transitional Housing Support Workers primary responsibility is to support urban Indigenous youth and young adults (ages 18-29) experiencing homelessness or at risk of insecure housing by providing responsive participant-based and one-to-one services. The Transitional Housing Support Worker will support youth and young adults in identifying accessing and navigating adult service systems relevant to their housing needs and transition to adulthood. This position will use a strengths-based trauma-informed approach and will collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary team to coordinate services and support in consultation with individuals and partnering programs.


QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Post-secondary education in Social Services or Child & Youth Services or combination of the equivalent education and/or a minimum of two years of work experience with young adults.

2. Minimum 2 years of experience preferably in residential housing outreach or shelter setting.

3. Knowledge of Indigenous culture and history with particular emphasis on family violence childwelfare impacts of trauma Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach; knowledge of anIndigenous language(s) will be considered an asset.

4. Knowledge of adolescent developmental theory and issues related to homeless youth and young adults.

5. Proven ability to deal effectively with crisis situations and to identify assess and intervene with youth incrisis.

6. Knowledge of and sensitivity to the life experiences and needs of the youth community.

7. Knowledge and understanding of flexible diverse traditional and nontraditional support advocacy andintervention processes.

8. Ability to engage people to build trust and rapport; effective verbal/listening communication skills.

9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office including database applications.

10. Excellent case / file management skills stress and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines.

11. Group facilitation team building and decision-making skills; ability to take initiative.

to work flexible hours including shift work evenings and weekends and on-call foremergency response.

13. Valid First Aid / CPR Certificate and Safe Food Handling certification is an asset.

14. A clear Vulnerable Sector Clearance Check is a condition of employment.

15. Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation; will require a valid Drivers Abstractupon hiring.
