Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Turbine/Mechanical Design Engineer Level 2/3 for the development and ongoing support of new and existing designs used in surface ship and submarine propulsion and power generation systems for the US Navy based out of Sunnyvale CA. The prospective candidate will work with a group of incredible people with backgrounds in Mechanical Electrical Aerothermal Acoustics Structural and Systems Engineers. The prospective candidate researches develops designs and test components equipment and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Our Sunnyvale site specializes in the development manufacture assembly and testing of propulsion and power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines. The candidate selected will apply their skills to support current and future Navy Power & Propulsion Turbomachinery development.
Primary focus will be the design of propulsion and power generation turbines and the associated components including structures blades diaphragms valves and actuators.
Secondary focus will be the design of variety of supporting hardware associated with propulsion and power generation turbines such as bearings couplings pipping auxiliary support systems and packaging.
Participate in the resolution of technical and complex issues related to hardware.
Participate in the generation and revision of engineering drawings reports and procedures.
Interface directly with customer and management to status activities.
Coordinate planning and scheduling of major activities.
Occasional domestic travel will be required.
Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below:
Basic Qualifications for Level 2:
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Aerospace Electrical Engineering or related Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 2 years related experience; or Masters degree in Mechanical Aerospace Electrical Engineering or related Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) discipline with no related experience.
Demonstrated experience with task planning and execution to meet schedule requirements.
Ability to work independently on projects with minimal lead or management oversight.
US Citizenship required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance.
Basic Qualifications for Level 3:
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Aerospace Electrical Engineering or related Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years related experience; or Masters degree in Mechanical Aerospace Electrical Engineering or related Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 3 years related experience. or PhD in Mechanical Aerospace Electrical Engineering or related Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) discipline with no related experience.
Demonstrated experience with task planning and execution to meet schedule requirements.
Ability to work independently on projects with minimal lead or management oversight.
US Citizenship required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficient with CAD modeling (NX CREO SolidWorks or equivalent)
Proficient in ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100 Dimensioning Tolerancing and Engineering Drawing Practices
Masters degree or higher in Aerospace Mechanical or a closely related engineering discipline.
Experience in developing design concepts performing trade studies and conducting evaluations and analyses
Strong background in machine design strength of materials and materials technology
Experience in executing projects in cross-functional matrix organization with other engineering disciplines
Experience in technical presentation and interfacing with customers
Experience in working with vendors and suppliers
Willing to learn Acoustic Analysis Structural Analysis and/or Electromagnetic Design
Active DOD Secret clearance
Primary Level Salary Range: $83400.00 - $125200.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $103600.00 - $155400.00
