Job Summary

Job Title: Career & Technology Education Director

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Department: Educational Services

Reports To: Asst. Superintendent of Educational Services

Approved by: Board of Trustees

SUMMARY:

Direct and manage district career and technology education program and facilities to meet student needs. Serve as instructional leader in development and improvement of instructional programs in career and technology education. Provide guidance on State and Federal Accountability Standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Masters degree

Standard Principal Certification

Vocational education certification preferred

EXPERIENCE:

Three years of successful career and technology teaching experience (Preferred)

Three years of successful teacher

Three years of leadership experience

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATION:

Certified T-TESS Appraiser

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of federal and state code governing career and technology education
  • Strong understanding of State Accountability and CCMR Standards
  • Strong understanding of Federal State and Grant Funding Sources
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to coordinate district function
  • Strong organizational communication public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional Management

  1. Ensure that student progress is evaluated on a regular systematic basis and that findings are used to make career and technology programs more effective.
  2. Facilitate planning and application of technologies in career and technology education program.
  3. Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  4. Plan the necessary time resources and materials to support subordinates in accomplishing goals.
  5. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge program effectiveness.
  6. Ensure that curriculum renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.
  7. Provide career exploration and awareness resources and testing materials to all campuses.
  8. Serve on state and local committees including Tech-Prep and School-to-Work committees.
  9. Establish student admission criteria for each career and technology program.
  10. Identify and define local job opportunities for students.
  11. Assume responsibility for career and technology education facilities and coordinate needed repairs and maintenance.


Student Management

  1. Implement district student management policies communicate expected student behavior related to career and technology programs and ensure enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
  2. Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences on vital issues with parents students and teachers.

Policy Reports and Law

  1. Recommend sound policies directed to improve program.
  2. Implement the policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and local board policy in area of career and technology education.
  3. Compile maintain file and present all reports records and other documents required.

Budget and Inventory

  1. Administer the career and technology budget and ensure that programs are cost effective and that funds are managed prudently.
  2. Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  3. Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment and recommend the disposal and replacement of equipment when necessary.
  4. Approve and forward purchase orders for department to accounting department.
  5. Complete the Title I Part C Carl D. Perkins Career & Technical Education Act Grant Application
  6. Complete the Carl D. Perkins Compliance Report

Personnel Management

  1. Prepare review and revise job descriptions of career and technology department.
  2. Develop training options and/or improvement plans to ensure operation of career and technology education department.
  3. Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
  4. Participate in recruitment selection and training of personnel. Make sound recommendations about personnel placement transfer retention discipline and dismissal.

Communication and Community Support

  1. Assist students parents and teachers with career college and scholarship information.
  2. Recruit employers and businesses to provide learning experience to students and provide assistance as necessary.
  3. Articulate the districts mission and goals in career and technology education to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.
  4. Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  5. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

  3. Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work meetings and appointments.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators teachers students parents and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fundamentals of algebra and geometry. Working knowledge of fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit occasionally walk and stand talk or hear; travel from one building to another or to other sites. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Light to moderate lifting is required.

This position requires meeting deadlines with severe constraints interacting with the public and staff and enduring irregular or extended work hours.

The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works indoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet but varies from site to site depending upon the activity being conducted.
