Under the supervision of the Director of Accessibility and Disability Resources the Accessibility and Disability Resources Coordinator plays a key role in coordinating accommodations and support services for students with disabilities. This full-time position is dedicated to identifying serving and advocating for students across the disability spectrum while ensuring equitable access to all aspects of campus Coordinator facilitates accommodations assists with outreach efforts and provides consultation to faculty staff and parents as needed. Additionally this role supports the Director in fostering an inclusive and welcoming campus environment promoting equal opportunity for students with disabilities in academic programs campus services and all student activities.

Required Education

  • Masters degree in Education Special Education Psychology Social Work College Student Personnel Counseling or a relevant field associated with higher education.
  • Possession of one or more of the following certifications preferred:
    • Interpreting Certificate Transliterating Certificate Comprehensive Skills Certificate or an Oral Interpreting Certificate California Coalition of Agencies Serving the Deaf (CAD)

Required Experience

  • Three to five years of experience in higher education or with students in an educational setting providing disability services preferred.
  • Knowledge of learning assistance operations and techniques learning evaluation and assessment and data analysis is required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of civil rights laws particularly ADAAA and Section 504.

Primary Duties/Essential Functions

  • Assists the Director in developing and implementing policies and procedures that align with best/current practices for serving students with disabilities.
  • Determines eligibility for services based on intake assessments review of documentation and consultation with appropriate medical or mental health professionals.
  • Develops appropriate accommodations for academic housing and other student campus needs on main and regional campuses for students with a wide range of disabilities through an interactive process.
  • Provides consultation to and works cooperatively with faculty staff and administration to ensure optimal service and support to students with disabilities. When appropriate work with students parents and/or advocates to ensure the suitability of services to students.
  • Maintains records and statistics on disability services including the maintenance of verification records and correspondence of students requesting or receiving academic accommodations.
  • Produces a monthly data report (e.g. number of intake meetings display of disability categories).
  • Adheres to standards of confidentiality and FERPA when working with students parents faculty and staff.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus support services such as tutoring University Counseling Center academic advising etc.
  • Develop and maintain liaisons with community and on-campus resources regarding services available to students with disabilities.
  • In consultation and collaboration with the Director develop organize and facilitate informational sessions for faculty staff and students.
  • Maintains currency on theory and trends on disability-related issues including legal developments and technology for equal access.
  • Provides flexible responsive and high quality service to the university community and continuously assesses processes and procedures revising accordingly.
  • Participates on university-wide committees representing the needs of students with disabilities and promotes a deeper understanding of accessibility and disability-related issues across campus (e.g. faculty workshops planning Disability Awareness Week).
  • Supervises other departmental staff including Graduate Assistant(s) as assigned to support the needs of students with disabilities and office workflow.

  • Must demonstrate working knowledge of learning disabilities and psychological/mental health impairments as they relate to the provision of accommodations.

Mental Demands

  • In agreement with the purpose and goals of Azusa Pacific University in providing a Christian-based higher education for its students.
  • Must exercise independent judgment and discretion.
  • Must have mental organization to work under pressure with many distractions handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Must work with little supervision and have the personality to interface effectively with students faculty and staff.

Physical Demands

  • Requires repetitive motion and sitting at a computer keyboard.
  • Hearing and speaking on the telephone.
  • Meetings may require walking and/or driving to various University locations.
  • Ability to pull push bend grasp reach and lift up to 20 lbs.

Visual Demands

  • Computer monitor and reading.

Environment

  • Pleasant office comfortable temperatures.

Technologies

  • Proficient in Google Apps. Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of using the Simplicity Accommodate software to process and draft memos is desirable.

Compensation

  • Grade 14: $73724 to $84783 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications experience and internal addition to compensation APU offers a competitive benefits package.
