Job Summary

Job Title: Prevention Specialist

Location: Houston

OBJECTIVE

Responsible for the implementation of targeted strategies for the provision of prevention and intervention services to support at-risk youth ages 5 18 and their families. Local area travel in own vehicle is required.

Please note: This is a grant-funded position and will end 11/29/26.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Must engage recruit and enroll youth ages 5 18 and their families into the program
  • Must implement and deliver approved evidence-based intervention(s) at various sites and schools as needed.
  • Provide group services and coordinate participants and their caregivers activities
  • Data collection and submission
  • Perform assignments within the context of the program community and school groups.
  • Attends staff meetings submits weekly program updates and complies with and submits necessary monthly reports based on performance measures.
  • Assist as needed with setting up appointments for youth screening/assessments and referrals
  • Assists the agency and community with promoting activities and strategies to assist the community schools and other groups to prevent and combat substance use and/or involvement in the juvenile justice system
  • Deliver culturally relevant trauma-informed services
  • Perform job tasks per the program schedule daily to ensure delivery of quality services.
  • Must follow general and specific requirements of contract and/or statement of work for awarded project.
  • Shall complete all required training as indicated in the contract which includes but not limited to program reporting systems data security quality assurance monitoring program planning implementation protocols methods and any other training sessions to enhance skills
  • *Performs other duties as assigned or as required.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to engage in physical activities with youth indoors and outdoors. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with groups of youth. Ability to adhere to deadlines and work under stress with a professional demeanor. Ability to maintain confidentiality as required. Ability to build rapport with youth to ensure the success of the program goals. Ability to safely drive a vehicle. Ability to see and hear to interact with the community.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

A variety of community settings making presentations to groups of youth and others. Driving from location to location. Frequently in and out of a vehicle in different weather conditions.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE CATEGORY

Minimal.

REQUIRED EDUCATION CERTIFICATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

High School graduate or equivalent some college preferred.

Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Experience writing reports. Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Knowledgeable about community resources and referral process.

Minimum of two (2) years experience working with youth

Experience in conducting classroom educational sessions

Proficient in Microsoft 365 - Outlook Excel Word PowerPoint Teams

Clear driving record

Preferred Texas Certified Prevention Specialist certification or must be willing to obtain certification within 90 days of hire

Keeps required certifications and job training current

Must be willing to be fingerprinted and pass a Background Check.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position is nonexempt and is eligible for overtime. Typical hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. On occasion you may be asked to work on a Saturday or participate in special events that may occur on a weekend.
