Job Summary

The role creation is subject to the Works Council positive advice and implementation of the new structure resulted as a consequence of Risk RfA on 1 April 2026.

The team

Global Risk organisation within ING is a Control function covering all key risk types ING is exposed to. Group Risk organisation comprises of Risk functions for all material risk types such as Credit Risk Financial Risk Non-Financial Risk and Compliance among others.

Risk Strategy Office is a newly established department as part of the Group Risk reorganisation to play a pivotal role in developing Risk strategies and setting priorities as well as overseeing its execution and implementation across the global Risk domain. This department will lead the transformation across the global Risk organisation orchestrate and coordinate central initiatives while managing relationships with various internal and external stakeholders and ensuring consistent approach across locations and functions while maintaining close alignment with the Group CRO through direct reporting line.

Role and responsibilities

As Head of Risk Strategy Office you will manage a team that leads the transformation across global Risk function and monitors the effectiveness and efficiency of the Risk management function. You will support the Group CRO in developing and setting the global Risk strategy as well as overseeing its execution. Your role will include steering of various strategic cross-functional and cross-country projects and initiatives. You will closely collaborate with the Global Risk functional heads and other Group and local stakeholders.

Head of Risk Strategy Office also performs operational oversight and coordination of local CROs of universal banks who functionally report to the Group CRO as well as serve as a central point of contact for Risk-related matters and central initiatives for countries and other ING domains.

This position entails directly supporting the Group CRO in leading the overall Risk organisation by preparing meeting materials for internal and external stakeholders as well as managing CRO Management Team meetings.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop Global Risk strategy and set priorities for the Risk function

  • Drive Risk strategy execution by developing KPIs and monitoring performance across functions and locations globally

  • Develop Risk Transformation strategy drive the implementation globally through a series of improvement initiatives

  • Monitor the effectiveness and efficiency of Risk Management Function and proactively drive initiatives aimed to further increase effectiveness and efficiency

  • Steer strategically relevant projects in close collaboration with the key internal stakeholders

  • Day-to-day oversight and coordination of CROs of universal banks (the Netherlands Belgium Germany Poland Australia Türkiye Romania Spain Italy)

  • Drive Dynamic Plan process for global Risk domain and monitor adherence throughout the year

  • Act as a SPOC for M&A opportunities and coordinate Risk involvement where and if applicable

  • Act as a SPOC for central Risk-related topics for internal and external stakeholders

  • Support the Group CRO on a range of ad-hoc topics and activities such as representing Group CRO in relevant internal meetings and SteerCos; support in Performance Management process; monitoring Risk functions performance in ING-wide initiatives (e.g. CO2 emissions OHI surveys Diversity targets)

  • Masters degree in Finance Banking Economics Risk Management or equivalent

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in international banking industry that combines broad understanding of business strategy Finance and Risk management

  • Knowledge of relevant banking regulations

  • Sound understanding of internal processes and control environment

  • Prior experience in Business Management Project Management and/or Corporate Strategy Development

  • Experience in working with senior management while balancing interests of different lines of defence

  • Strategic mindset ability to have both high-level perspective and dive into specialised topics paying attention to detail

  • Experience in executing and coordinating global/multidisciplinary projects

  • Proven ability to independently synthesise complex matters into succinct communication to drive strategic management decisions

  • Result-oriented and driven to deliver high-quality output

  • Natural and energetic communicator able to motivate and drive others to achieve common goals and obtain buy-in from stakeholders

  • Strong interpersonal communication and stakeholder management skills for interactions with all levels of management and staff

  • Organisationally and culturally sensitive

  • Fluent in English speaking and writing

  • FRM Qualification is a plus

Reporting Line and Classification

Head of Risk Strategy Office reports hierarchically to Group CRO and is located in Amsterdam the Netherlands.
