Are you passionate about safe respectful and inclusive spaces for Indigenous peoples within the healthcare system The team at the Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) is seeking a compassionate and culturally grounded Indigenous Cultural Coordinator to bridge traditional Indigenous healing and spirituality with western approaches to cancer care. As a cultural resource and support you will help foster strong relationships promote the sacredness of healing ceremonies and offer cultural guidance to help build trust respect and understanding between CCI staff and Indigenous patients and families. Join us in shaping culturally inclusive and safe cancer care at the Cross Cancer Institute. Description:

As an Indigenous Health Coordinator you will: Provide advocacy counseling support education and facilitation of traditional Indigenous wellness services to patients families and health professionals Support patients and families in accessing cultural and traditional care by connecting them with Elders Knowledge Keepers and community resources. Work closely with Indigenous Cancer Patient Navigators (ICPNs) Spiritual Health providers Cancer Care Albertas Walking Together Team Social Workers and the broader Alberta Cancer Care Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) team Help create a healing environment where Indigenous people feel welcomed heard and respected. Your role will include coordinating regular cultural care activities such as weekly smudging educational sessions as well as organizing and participating in seasonal ceremonies and events like tipi ceremonies National Indigenous Peoples Day and traditional medicine gathering. Provide education about respectful relationships and health care for Indigenous people while building increased understanding and trust between Indigenous people and the CCI team. Support the development and evaluation of Indigenous programs and services through activity reporting documentation and service logs. Respecting the historical impacts of colonization the traditional Indigenous beliefs and cultures the diversity of the varied belief structures among Indigenous peoples the Indigenous Health Coordinator creates responsive sensitive and consultative relationships that enable trust and wellness among peoples of diverse world views and approaches to health.

Required Qualifications:

Recognized by an Indigenous community as being competent in the use of traditional Indigenous practices. Having training and guidance in the use of traditional Indigenous approaches to wellbeing spirituality and health. Having the ability to facilitate connection to traditional wellness practices. Previous experience in a health care setting or in a human services field and advanced experience/knowledge of Indigenous wellness methods cultures and traditions. Skilled in building relationships and fostering cultural understanding between indigenous and non-indigenous peoples.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Knowledge and respect for the diversity of Indigenous populations and communities. Knowledge of Indigenous history worldviews perspectives beliefs/values cultures and traditions and spirituality is required. Knowledge and ability to teach and provide use of traditional Indigenous protocol traditional medicines and Indigenous wellness methods. Ability to work independently and as part of a health care team. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with others. Demonstrates good written skills and use of relevant computer software.


Preferred Qualifications:

Secondary degree in health care or social sciences. Certification in counselling and/ or counselling experience. Ability to speak or understand any of the traditional languages within Alberta. Experience in a health care setting like a clinic long term care and/ or hospital. Knowledge and training in Connect Care.
