General Summary:

The Librarian II: Scholarly Communication Librarian at Cornette Library advances the Universitys research and teaching mission by strengthening the ways campus stakeholders discover scholarly resources and by expanding the visibility and accessibility of the universitys own scholarship. This position transforms access to education by leading the librarys open educational resources movementcurating affordable alternatives empowering faculty adoption and driving campus-wide change through the OER LibGuide Pressbooks platform and OER Working Group. The Scholarly Communication Librarian helps campus stakeholders navigate the world of transformative agreements champions faculty publications and helps bring research to life through the Faculty and Student Research Poster Session and Research Week. This position shares innovative ways that library resources are evolving by leading the efforts to communicate changes to library databases and getting feedback from campus stakeholders about those databases.

Access to OER training is part of this role and mentorship is provided to help facilitate positive faculty interactions.

This position reports to the Librarian III: Systems and Emerging Technologies Librarian and as a member of the Research Outreach & Instruction team assists with outreach events and staffing the Research Desk.

*Salary up to $47000 annually based on education and experience.*

Responsibilities:

Open Educational Resource and Open Access Support

Leads the librarys OER efforts on campus.

Helps faculty find adopt adapt and develop OER and OA Resources.

Delivers programs that increase awareness of OER and OA Resources.

Manages the librarys OER web presence including the librarys OER LibGuide and instance of the Pressbooks publishing platform.

Co-chairs the campus OER Working Group.

Scholarly Publishing Services

Tracks markets and supports transformative agreements and other publisher deals.

Assesses faculty publications to provide recommendations for future transformative agreements.

Leads the librarys involvement in the Faculty and Student Research Poster Session and Research Fair

Assessment and Promotion of Scholarly Resources

Improves communication with campus stakeholders about scholarly resources.

Assists with the promotion and assessment of trial databases.

Communicates updates on new database features.

Outreach & Instruction:

Participates in the execution of faculty-oriented programming.

Assists with instruction.

Assists with student or community outreach events.

Research Desk:

Works hours at the librarys Research Desk.

Professional Service:

Serves as liaison to one or more academic departments.

Participates in maintenance of library collections in liaison area(s).

Serves on library and University committees as needed.

Professional Development:

Keeps current on trends in OER.

Keeps current with developments in library service and pedagogical theory and practice.

Commits to learning and self-improvement adding value to Cornette Library and West Texas A&M University through attendance at Cornette Librarys Professional Learning Community (PLC) and through other professional avenues such as membership in professional organizations conferences webinars podcasts professional literature presentations and/or publishing.

Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System University and job-specific online training courses.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • MLS MLIS MSLS or masters degree in related field.
  • One (1) year of experience or coursework providing reference in a library.
  • Experience providing instruction in a classroom setting.
  • Knowledge in the use of academic library resources including reference tools and the processes of research and information retrieval.
  • Adaptable/flexible with the ability to analyze organize multi-task and prioritize work in a fast paced environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong customer service ethic.
  • Experience using a wide variety of platforms hardware and software including but not limited to: office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel) Microsoft Windows Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and discovery services.
  • Knowledgeable about various subject areas; expertise extends to evaluating information sources for their reliability and relevance.
  • Strong soft skills: teamwork and collaboration professionalism or work ethic oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with campus community and critical thinking or problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to move medium weight boxes books heavy book truck or similar items*.
  • Ability to handle materials containing dust or microscopic mode spores.*

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MLS MSLS MLIS from an ALA-accredited program.
  • One (1) year of experience providing reference in an academic library.
  • One (1) year of experience or coursework in instruction for online blended and/or traditional classes and utilizing learning methodologies and theories.
  • School Librarian Certification.
  • Experience using Primo.
  • Experience with the Springshare Suite of tools.
  • Teaching certificate
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in academic librarianship scholarship and/or technologies.
  • Knowledge of teaching methodologies and learning theories.
  • Knowledge of collection development principles.
