Per Diem Histotechnologist

Position Summary

The Per Diem Histotechnologist is responsible for performing all aspects of histological preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis. This includes embedding sectioning staining and cover-slipping of tissue samples. The Histotech may also work alongside the pathologist during digital path review. The Histotech ensures the highest quality of tissue processing and slide preparation in accordance with established laboratory procedures and safety regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine procedures including embedding microtomy staining (H&E only) and coverslipping.
• Operate maintain and troubleshoot histology laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Ensure accurate specimen labeling documentation and quality control according to lab policies.
• Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment compliant with CLIA CAP and OSHA standards.
• Collaborate with pathologists and other laboratory staff to ensure timely and accurate results.
• Participate in proficiency testing and continuing education as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor or Director.

Education & Certification

• Associate or Bachelors degree in a laboratory science or related field.
• Certification as an HT (Histotechnician) or HTL (Histotechnologist) by ASCP preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 12 years of histology laboratory experience preferred.
• Experience in embedding sectioning and staining human tissue.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
• Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Flexibility to work variable hours including early mornings or weekends if needed.
• This role will be approximately 5 to 10 hours a month on an as need basis.
