Kendrick Recruitment is seeking an experienced Field Guide to join a prestigious private nature reserve in the Hermanus area. This role requires a passionate knowledgeable and guest-focused individual dedicated to delivering outstanding nature-based experiences.
Role Overview
The Field Guide will be responsible for providing unique personalised and educational guided experiences. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism humility and a deep respect for the natural environment while ensuring exceptional guest satisfaction at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality interpretive guided experiences tailored to individual guest interests.
Conduct nature walks and activities across various biomes including Fynbos forest and coastal environments.
Maintain thorough knowledge of the local ecology fauna flora geology and related guiding topics.
Ensure all guiding equipment including vehicles is properly maintained clean and fully functional.
Uphold guest and staff safety through comprehensive safety briefings and appropriate first aid readiness.
Communicate effectively with lodge management and relevant departments regarding guest needs and requests.
Record guest information feedback and any special requirements accurately.
Participate in continuous learning and internal training to support ongoing professional development.
Assist guiding colleagues and support broader lodge operations when required.
Requirements
Minimum 2 years experience as a Nature or Field Guide within a lodge environment.
FGASA Apprentice Field Guide (NQF2) or higher theory and practical completed.
Registered with NDT and in possession of a relevant CATHSSETA certificate.
Valid South African Code 8 drivers licence and PrDP.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Passion for nature conservation and guest engagement.
Ability to work independently with enthusiasm and initiative.
Flexible and adaptable with the ability to adjust plans according to guest needs.
Professional appearance and behaviour.
Willingness to work towards further biome-specific and regional guiding certifications.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Team-oriented with a cooperative and supportive approach.
