Minimum Qualifications

One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Captain or higher in state service:

Eight years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement.


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Possession of a current drivers license.

Applicants may be required to qualify as an ex-officio notary public.

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

NOTE:
This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more) walk long distances work in harsh weather conditions fire handguns rifles and shotguns accurately and have the ability to operate vehicles boats and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Provides formal advice to enforcement personnel for investigations of crimes crime scenes and boating crash scenes for the purpose of gathering witness testimony and physical evidence to be used in prosecuting suspects and other determining criminal causes which may be indicated.
  • Investigations may include vessel homicides marine thefts registration frauds license frauds and background investigations.
  • Assignments may include follow-up work on cases initiated by other agents
  • Ensures direction and quality of worked conducted and produced under assigned section is productive efficient and focused toward achieving the divisions goals and objectives.
  • Coordinates complex multi-state criminal investigations of state and federal violations and coordinates with other enforcement agencies on state and federal enforcement activities.
  • Review boating crash incident reports compiling and evaluating statistics to determine when and where enforcement efforts should be concentrated in order to reduce crash incidents and boating related fatalities.

Appointment Type:This is a promotional opportunity open only to current permanent classified employees of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries/Enforcement Division.

Location: The position will be domiciled in the Enforcement Division in the Office of Secretary in East Baton Rouge.
