The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. This Position Is aSpecial Appointment. The Incumbent Will Work at The Pleasure of the AppointingAuthority.
This recruitment is limited to applicants who currently possess or have possessed in the last three years Law Enforcement (Police) Certification from the Maryland Police &Correctional Training Commissions.
The main purpose of the position is to functionas the senior Department of Public Safety employee assigned to the Departmentof Public Safety and Correctional Services Intelligence and InvestigativeDivision and Warrant Apprehension Unit. This is a high management-levelposition with command responsibilities designed to provide unit continuity anddirection under the authority of the Secretary of the Department of PublicSafety and Correctional Services. This position oversees all law enforcementoperations within the Department.
Education:A Bachelors Degree from an Accreditedcollege or University-Criminal Justice Law or Business Administration.
Experience: Seven (7) years of professional lawenforcement or criminal investigative experience to include four (4) years ofmanagement experience overseeing law enforcement or investigation teams.

1. Candidates may substitutethe possession of a Masters degree from an accredited college or universityfor up totwo years of the required experience.
1. Candidates for this classification must possess and maintain a current Maryland certification as a Police Officer or meet the criteria for Police Officer under Criminal Procedure Article 2-101.
2. Applicants for this classification formerly certified by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission as a Police Officer within the past three years and eligible for recertification at the time of appointment meet the certification requirement for this classification. The recertification criteria are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.04.01.07.
3. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.
1. Employees must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Police Training Commission for police officers in accordance with Public Safety Article Section 3-207 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. Selection standards for police officer training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12 Subtitle 04 Chapter 01 and include the following:
U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status
Must be at least 21 years of age
A complete background investigation
Oral interview
Physical examination
Polygraph and psychological evaluations.
2. Candidates for this classification will be given a medical examination to determine their ability to perform job-related functions. Employees in this classification will be required to bear firearms and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis.
3. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in on a 24-hours a day basis and will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
