There are currently over eight thousand students in Jefferson County Public Schools who speak English as a second language. They come from dozens of different cultural backgrounds and nearly every continent culture and country of origin can profoundly influence a childs identity life experiences and learning which is why it is so important for educators to become familiar with these various global cultures. The English as a Second Language (ESL) program provides Interpretation and Translation servicesfor the entire school district to help our schools/programs communicate effectively with limited English-speakingfamilies.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists teachers in fulfilling the goals of the second language program by providing the appropriate language instruction to the students assigned to such classes. Assists in implementingeducation programs by providing comprehensive assessments evaluations and instruction.

The desired language for this position is Spanish.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:INSTRUCTOR IBILINGUAL ASSOCIATE

High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Passing Score on the Kentucky Para-educator Assessment or 48 college hours
Demonstrated proficiency intwo (2) languages English and the appropriate language.
Experience in working with children and parents with special needs multi-cultural and multi-ethnic backgrounds
Program-specificcertifications/training
Effective communication skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:INSTRUCTOR IIBILINGUAL ASSOCIATE

Associate Degree or approved equivalent training (64 college semester hours) and experience
One (1) year of successful experience with children
Demonstrated proficiency intwo (2) languages English and the appropriate language.
Experience in working with children and parents with special needs multi-cultural and multi-ethnic backgrounds
Knowledge of or receptive to philosophy policyand methodology of the U.S. educational system
Effective communication skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:INSTRUCTOR III BILINGUAL ASSOCIATE

Bachelors degree. Official Transcripts are required.
Three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
Demonstrated proficiency intwo (2) languages English and the appropriate language.
Experience in working with children and parents with special needs multi-cultural and multi-ethnic backgrounds.
Knowledge of or receptive to philosophy policyand methodology of the U.S. educational system
Effective communication skills
