Job Summary

Introduction

Join ASMLs AI and Machine Learning team in Veldhoven where we explore cutting-edge technologies to improve semiconductor manufacturing. Our machines print nanometer-scale patterns on silicon wafers requiring precise calibration and diagnostics. Vision-language models (LVMs) have the potential to assist experts in these tasks but they often lack domain-specific understanding. This internship focuses on bridging that gap by creating benchmarks and datasets tailored to ASMLs diagnostic context.

Your assignment

You will design and implement a benchmarking framework for evaluating vision-language models on ASML-specific tasks. This includes curating multimodal datasets and developing evaluation pipelines to measure model performance against human-level standards.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Collect and organize technical documents and visual data from internal and public sources.

  • Design and implement a semi-automated pipeline for dataset annotation.

  • Create benchmark tasks for multimodal understanding in diagnostic scenarios.

  • Evaluate state-of-the-art vision-language models using established metrics.

  • Analyze performance gaps and propose improvements for domain-specific applications.

  • Document your methodology and results in a clear reproducible format.

  • Present findings to stakeholders and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.

This is a Masters internship for a minimum of 6 months (preferably 9) minimum 4 days per week (1-2 days on-site). The start date of this internship is before February 2026.

Your profile

To be suitable for the internship you:

  • Are enrolled in a masters degree in data science artificial intelligence computer science or a related field.

  • Have experience with large language models and prompt engineering.

  • Are proficient in Python; familiarity with MATLAB and databricks is a plus.

  • Understand multimodal datasets and benchmarking tools (e.g. Hugging Face).

  • Bring strong analytical thinking are able to work independently and a proactive mindset.

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institutefor the entire duration of the internship;

  • Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;

  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.

  • If you are a non-EU citizen studying in the Netherlands your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e. Nuffic agreement).
