Basic Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Experience: Prior experience working with animals (such as volunteering at a shelter or vet clinic) is preferred but not always required.
Age: Must be at least 18 years old (depending on state laws or employer policy).
Skills and Competencies
Animal handling: Ability to safely handle dogs and cats.
Observation: Monitor animal behavior appetite and health for signs of illness or stress.
Cleaning and sanitation: Maintain clean kennels cages and work areas using proper disinfecting procedures.
Physical ability: Must be able to lift 4050 lbs stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
Communication: Work well with team members veterinarians and pet owners.
Attention to detail: Follow feeding schedules medication instructions and care protocols accurately.
Typical Duties
Feeding and watering animals on a set schedule
Cleaning kennels cages litter boxes and bedding
Assisting veterinarians or vet techs during exams or procedures
Exercising dogs and socializing animals
Keeping accurate records of feeding behavior and health changes
