We are inviting you to apply for a full-time Medical Records Clerk position
Job Summary:
Provide and maintain resident medical records and health information systems in accordance with current federal and state guidelines as well as in accordance with our facilitys established privacy policies and procedures.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Partner with providers who conduct on-site visits to maintain schedules as well as schedule offsite appointments and transportation for residents when needed
- Serve as a key point of contact for providers regarding medical records procurement including timely collection and distribution of requests for medical records
- Scan attach and file documents while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of data and abiding by HIPAA and medical privacy regulations
- Run report to understand what labs are due for each resident accurately filling out lab requisition form to give to nurses for completion; enter labs in as order into Matrix adding a diagnosis to the order in preparation to send to lab company
- Create electronic health record by entering resident information into the electronic health record database and retrieve resident information as needed
- Responsible for appropriately closing out residents files upon discharge which includes disassembling and filing within companys guidelines
- Assist with administrative duties as needed which may include updating facility lists answering telephones or covering the reception desk
- Provide back-up support to the Medical Records Coder with order entries and coding as needed
- Attend mandatory facility in-service training programs as scheduled
- Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the facility/company
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Understanding Medical Terminology HIPAA and medical privacy regulations
- Excellent attention to detail/accuracy
- Possess strong organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
Education and Experience:
- At a minimum must have high school diploma or its equivalent; Bachelors degree is preferred
- Have at least one (1) years experience in a clerical position or successfully completed a secretarial science program from an accredited school/college.
Work Environment:
- May be exposed to infectious diseases and hazardous substances
- Mechanical hazards related to equipment common to a post-acute care environment
