Bus Driver

The pastor and the principal are the visible foundation of the school which the Bishop has entrusted to the pastor and principal. Together with the pastor the principal makes Christs mission present and enduring in the order to fulfill this mission the principal employs suitable chosen collaborators. The principal shares with them Christs mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed in the school help to extend the ministry of the pastor and the principal in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the pastor and the principal in the performance of their ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Job Summary
The Bus Driver fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by contributing to the safety of children while being transported to and from school and other events. This is accomplished within the framework of the schools philosophy and organization. The Bus Driver has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions in keeping with school policies. The position is hired and evaluated by the principal.
Essential Duties
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Communicates with the principal regarding safety/discipline concerns of students
- Demonstrates professionalism in conduct demeanor and work habits
- Transports students to and from school and school activities in compliance with federal state and local regulations
- Abides by regulations and vehicle guidelines regarding maintenance and operation of vehicles
- Performs checks of the vehicles prior to use to ensure safe operation
- Follows all safety and emergency procedures while operating the vehicle
- Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school students and staff
- Abide by the rules regarding the safety and discipline of student riders
Essential Duties (continued)
- Notify Principal of occurrence of accidents and other important incidents and complete written reports
- Submits to Principals office all requests for needed maintenance and repairs to vehicle(s)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of motor vehicle laws and school policies and procedures
- Able to respectfully and effectively manage student behavior
- Able to communicate effectively both orally and verbally
- Able to work well with others in the school community
- Able to respond to a crisis effectively
- Knowledge in general vehicle maintenance and operation

- Holds a valid Class B Drivers License
- Holds Passenger and/or School Bus (P and S) endorsements as needed
- Holds a safe driving record and be free of restrictions
- Must Safe Environment Training within the first week of employment and maintain Safe Environment compliance during the entire term of employment.
