CoastConnect is looking for a full-time Telecommunications Linemen to work in the Harrison Hancock and Pearl River County this position the Telecommunications Lineman will be responsible for installing maintaining and repairing overhead and underground telecommunication cables including fiber optic lines by climbing poles working in aerial lifts and utilizing specialized tools to splice fiber attach hardware to poles and troubleshoot network issues across various terrains often responding to service outages and weather-related damage.
MISSION STATEMENT:
CoastConnect exists to bring communications through fiber internet and phone service to Coast Electric members and others throughout South Mississippi and to improve the economy and quality of life in our community.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Telecommunications Lineman will install cables and conduits for telecommunication lines; pull and lash fiber optic cables to aerial strands; install underground cables in manholes and conduit systems; and set up service drops to customers premises. This position will inspect existing telecommunication lines for damage or wear; repair broken cables and faulty connections; replace outdated equipment with new technology; and troubleshoot network issues by testing signal strength and identifying fault locations. This position will respond to service outages caused by storms accidents or equipment failure and perform emergency repairs to restore communication services quickly. The Telecommunications Lineman will adhere to all safety protocols related to working at heights electric hazards and heavy equipment. This position will wear appropriate safety gear including harnesses gloves and protective eyewear.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma GED or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a mainline construction lineman/fiber splicer.
- Must possess a valid Mississippi drivers license and the ability to travel to worksites.
- This position requires the ability to work during regular business hours or when on-call. Must be available to work overtime including weekends evenings and holidays as required.
- Must have the ability to use computers and computer systems to set up functions enter date or process information.
- Must possess a technical understanding of telecommunication cable systems fiber optic technology electrical principles and network infrastructure.
- Must have the ability to troubleshoot diagnose and resolve network issues using relevant testing equipment.
- Must possess expertise in using hand tools including cable cutters lashing tools pole climbers and grounding equipment.
- Must have the ability to learn and apply the rules and regulations of various regulatory bodies impacting the operation of a telecommunications system including but not limited to FCC NEC NESC and OSHA as well as local and state ordinances codes and regulations.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Must be able to listen and give full attention to what other people are saying taking time to understand the points being made asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Must have the ability to read manuals maps and the like and ability to prepare summaries and reports.
- Must be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions conclusions or approaches to problems.
- The ability to stay cool calm and collected during difficult or challenging times and the ability to remain positive when resolving problems related to construction projects and contractor compliance.
- Must be able to see things at a close distance (within a few feet)
- Must have the ability to apply practical applications of fractions percentages ratio and proportion and geometric construction.
- Must be able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Must have good judgment and decision-making skills.
- Must have the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem only recognizing there is a problem.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must have the ability to stand walk bend and stoop. Must have the ability to climb poles work in various weather conditions and to perform physically demanding tasks. Must have the ability to drive and ride in a vehicle for long periods of time when necessary. Must have the ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp manipulate or assemble very small objects and to quickly respond with the hand finger or foot to a signal (sound light picture) when it appears. Must have the ability to see details at close range and at a distance. Must have good night vision to operate a vehicle and perform work in response to after-hours calls. Must have the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift push pull or carry objects up to 50 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work is performed both inside and outside in the extremes of wind heat cold wet and humid weather with frequent exposure to noise vibration fumes odors and dust. Work will be performed primarily outdoors working on utility poles in aerial lifts or in underground utility trenches. This position may involve working in confines spaces including but not limited to manholes.
