About Qualicum School District

Qualicum School District is centrally situated on east Vancouver Island and covers the area of Nanoose Bay to Bowser and spans from Errington across the Strait of Georgia to Lasqueti Island. We serve a student population of approximately 4700 students. Qualicum School District consists of eight elementary schools (Grades K-7) two secondary schools (Grade 8-12) an alternate school (PASS/Woodwinds) and a Distributed Learning program to support home-learning families called the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP). False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off-grid with an immense solar project recently completed. JOB TITLE: CUSTODIAN SPARE

JOB FUNCTION:

An employee in this classification ensures that students and staff are provided with a clean safe and secure environment in which to learn and work.

REPORTING TO:

Director of Operations or designate.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:

1. Carries out the assigned custodial responsibilities in accordance with the established routines safety protocols and procedures.

2. Maintains the security and order of the facility including arming the buildings security system at the end of the shift.

3. Provides access for approved community groups.

4. Moves furniture within buildings as required for various activities as assigned by the supervisor.

5. Performs minor maintenance and repairs e.g. soap and towel dispensers light bulb replacements and equipment.

6. Reports items for work order submissions to the site administrator or the Custodial Foreperson.

7. Maintains an adequate inventory of custodial supplies at the site.

8. Performs other assigned job-related duties within this classification.

REQUIRED ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Grade 10 or equivalent.

2. Successful completion of or willingness to obtain a Certified Building Service Worker Level 1 at a recognized institution within six months.

3. Minimum of six months related experience.

4. Demonstrated ability to perform and learn manual tasks including the lifting of medium heavy loads working overhead and working on a ladder.

5. Good interpersonal oral and written skills.

6. Ability to work independently.

7. Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and public.

8. Note: Positions requiring a Class 5 BC Drivers License will be so designated.

Additional Information:

False Bay School is located on Lasqueti Island a small remote island connected to Vancouver Island by passenger-only ferry at French Creek near Parksville. The False Bay Custodial & Maintenance Spare will only be dispatched for False Bay School. This position has no guarantee of rate of pay for the Spare Custodial position is $33.51.

JOB TITLE: Maintenance False Bay School

JOB FUNCTION:

An employee in this classification is responsible for the routine maintenance of the generator plant and school facilities at False Bay School to ensure that full use can be made of the school facilities at all times.

REPORTING TO:

Director of Operations or designate.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:

1. Conducts daily inspection of the electrical generating system and battery back-up system.

2. Performs routine maintenance on school facilities that does not require a trades certification.

3. Maintains the electrical generating system on an ongoing basis including the delivery of any fuel required.

4. Maintains the grounds playground and its equipment to the standards set by the School District.

5. Maintains effective communication with the general public including contractors and service providers and school district staff.

6. Ensures that work orders are raised for all work performed and files them with Operations and Maintenance.

7. Consults with certified trades persons.

8. Acts as shipper/receiver when required.

9. Performs other job-related duties.

REQUIRED ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school graduation or equivalent.

2. A minimum of six months experience maintaining electrical generating systems.

3. A B.C. Drivers Licence Class 5.

4. Valid First Aid Certificate.

5. Ability to work effectively with staff.

6. A broad base of skills and experience that relate to facility maintenance.
