Role Purpose

The Director Policy and Advocacy AMR & Sustainable Innovation will lead development and implementation of GSKs global policy and advocacy strategy to advance sustainable models that enable continued R&D investment in and value recognition for a range of biopharma innovations relevant for tackling AMR as well as supporting equitable access for patients worldwide.

This role will shape the external policy environment to ensure that innovative antimicrobials and AMR-relevant vaccines can be discovered developed and delivered sustainably aligning with GSKs commitment to responsible business global health security and company growth. This role offers career growth the chance to influence global health policy and to contribute directly to GSKs mission of uniting science technology and talent to get ahead of disease together.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development and delivery of GSKs global AMR and sustainable innovation policy and advocacy strategy prioritising financial incentives and models and economic frameworks that support antimicrobial and vaccine R&D as well as access and stewardship globally.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with government ministries regulators industry associations WHO and other multilateral forums and key NGOs and academic partners.
  • Design and deliver targeted advocacy campaigns policy briefs and consultation responses that shape policy and funding decisions.
  • Develop clear concise advice and briefing materials for senior leaders and cross-functional teams to inform strategic decisions and support external policy-based engagements.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders including R&D global commercial and market access and other Communications and Government Affairs teams to align policy positions and deliver on objectives.
  • Monitor global policy trends perform horizon scanning and prepare risk/opportunity assessments to advise Senior Leaders and inform proactive engagement.

Key Requirements

Basic Qualifications
We are seeking professionals with the following required skills and qualifications to help us achieve our goals:

  • Degree in public health health policy international relations health economics or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in public policy government affairs global health or advocacy within the pharmaceutical biotechnology diagnostics or public health sectors with demonstrated work on infectious diseases or AMR.
  • Some experience within a commercial organisation is a must.
  • Strategic thinker with the capacity to translate insights into actionable advice for the business.
  • Policy analysis experience including consultation response drafting and regulatory policy input to support sustainable financing models for R&D and access and stewardship of innovations.
  • Proven track record of influencing global policy environments and building partnerships with international organisations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English including experience producing policy briefs and managing C-suite level stakeholders.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a matrix organisation.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics it would be a plus:

  • Experience engaging with WHO G20 regional health bodies or major donor agencies.
  • Technical understanding of antimicrobial stewardship diagnostics surveillance or new therapeutic development.
  • Track record of coalition building and managing consortium-style partnerships.
  • Familiarity with health economics or market-shaping approaches to improve access.

You will be comfortable working across cultures and time zones. You should bring sound judgement a bias for action and a commitment to public health impact. The US annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $162750 to $271250. The US salary ranges take into account a number of factors including work location within the US market the candidates skills experience education level and the market rate for the addition this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role. Available benefits include health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family) retirement benefits paid holidays vacation and paid caregiver/parental and medical leave.
