Job Summary

Augustana University invites applications for the position of Residence Hall Director a full-time 12-month live-in administrative role within the Department of Residence Life. Residence Hall Directors are integral members of the Residence Life team supporting a holistic and student-centered residential experience grounded in the Universitys mission vision and core values.

This position provides leadership supervision crisis response and community development in a residence hall serving 50250 students. The hall overseen in this role features suite-style rooms with shared bathroomshousing first- through fourth-year studentsoffering unique opportunities for intentional engagement creative programming and community building.

The Residence Hall Director plays a key role in fostering an inclusive supportive and academically enriched living environment and collaborates closely with campus partners across the University. Responsibilities

  • Supervision
    1. Directly supervise 610 undergraduate student staff members.
    2. Provide training performance evaluation and ongoing development support.
  • Residence Hall Administration & Management
    1. Oversee the daily operations of a co-ed residence hall housing 50250 students.
    2. Manage processes for check-in/check-out room changes key administration and facility needs reporting.
    3. Facilitate roommate mediation and serve as a resource for personal and interpersonal concerns.
    4. Maintain visible presence and hold regular office hours.
    5. Oversee hall programming initiatives related to academics wellness diversity service vocation community development and leadership.
    6. Manage a programming budget effectively.
    7. Partner with the Director of Student Conduct regarding student behavior concerns.
  • Crisis Management
    1. Serve in the on-call rotation supporting the broader Residential Education program.
    2. Assess student needs provide immediate support and refer to appropriate campus resources.
  • Collateral Assignment
    1. Receive additional responsibilities based on departmental and institutional needs.
    2. Potential partnership areas include Residence Life Mental Health & Wellness Housing Recreational Services and Student Engagement.
  • Departmental Support
    1. Contribute to department-wide initiatives assessment and committee work.
    2. Represent Residence Life and Student Affairs at campus events and programs.
    3. Assist with summer housing camps and conference operations.
    4. Availability for evening weekend and holiday commitments as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of student development theory and its application in residential settings.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to articulate the purpose and value of the residential experience to students families and colleagues.
  • Experience with crisis intervention conflict management and community engagement.
  • Strong written verbal and electronic communication skills.
  • Knowledge of program evaluation and assessment of learning outcomes.
  • Ability to create communities welcoming and belonging.
