This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

As a Mechanical Engineer you will lead the development of innovative design solutions that meet challenging requirements and perform engineering calculations to support key design this role you will oversee the planning and execution of system or component repairs replacements and upgrades prepare detailed technical reports and ensure compliance with applicable design standards.
Strong communication and technical writing abilities along with excellent interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role. If you are keen to create and develop designs for UKAEAs facilities and future fusion devices while managing all engineering aspects of assigned systems and components including their repair replacement and upgrade we would like to hear from you.
Key Accountabilities:
Lead and coordinate design activities including Drawing Office tasks ensuring designs meet requirements follow established procedures and apply value engineering and design-for-manufacture principles.
Perform and validate engineering analyses using classical and numerical methods ensuring designs comply with international and fusion-specific standards and are verified through computation or experiment.
Plan and manage on-site repair maintenance and upgrade projects and produce high-quality technical reports departmental notes specifications tender documents and publications.
Support and guide team members by supervising junior engineers and students providing feedback acting as a technical reference and fostering strong communication within and beyond the team.
Maintain adherence to organisational systems and processes ensuring compliance within the team and undertaking any additional reasonable duties required for the role.
Qualifications :
Essential:
- A relevant engineering degree or equivalent
- Ability to perform exploratory design calculations using first principles
- Good working knowledge of structural and thermal engineering solid mechanics and engineering materials
Desirable:
- Proven capability in engineering analysis and a good working knowledge of engineering materials and their properties
- Experience with relevant environmental factors such as vacuum and transient magnetic fields
