The Department of Labor and Industries Self-Insurance Program is seeking a Workers Compensation Adjudicator 4 (WCA4) to join our team. You will support the agencys mission by resolving complex high profile sensitive medical and legal issues in accordance with industrial insurance and case law while ensuring that workers receive sure and certain relief and timely benefits.

You would be responsible for reviewing adjudicating and ensuring the quality and consistent management of industrial and occupational disease claims especially those covered under the various presumptive coverage laws including Radiological Hazardous Waste Facility Presumptive coverage and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) claims.

This opportunity will require the incumbent to communicate with workers employers physicians and their lay or legal representatives concerning individual cases and appropriate application of the Industrial Insurance Act pertinent rules and policies.

The Insurance Services Self-Insurance program is dedicated to supporting employers and protecting workers by providing impartial oversight and timely expert services to all employers in Washington State that elect to administer and pay their own workers compensation claims.

Some of what you will do:

• Review claims and issue legal orders in response to requests to allow deny and close claims.
• Address overpayment segregation suspension and wage requests and issue orders.
• Review claim files and complex payroll records to establish wage rates ensuring time-loss compensation is paid appropriately and at correct rates.
• Work with both the self-insured employer and the worker to gather sufficient information needed to issue appropriate orders.
• Communicate with interested parties concerning individual cases and appropriate application of the Industrial Insurance Act pertinent rules and policies.
• Compose correspondence to workers employers physicians and attorneys and compose legal orders.
• Ensure that vocational rehabilitation assistance is provided to injured workers where required by statute.
• Evaluate and adjudicate disputes protests or requests for reconsideration received from interested parties. Issue further legal orders to address the contested issue.
• Review and investigate requests for time-loss compensation or permanent partial disability benefits on reopened claims after statutory time limitation and make appropriate recommendations for action.
• Prepare briefing papers for the Director to make discretionary decisions for benefits on claims that have been reopened.

Required:

• Successful completion of the Department of Labor and Industries Workers Compensation Adjudicator 2 Apprenticeship program.

AND

• One (1) year of experience as a Workers Compensation Adjudicator 3.

OR

• A Bachelors degree.

AND

Three (3) years of experience in adjudicating workers or crime victims compensation insurance claims or adjudication of time-loss payments.

OR

• Equivalent education/experience.

Note: If the employee hired is not already a certified claims administrator they must take and pass the certification test within one (1) year of hire.

Desired:

• Working knowledge of Washingtons self-insurance system rules and regulations.
  
  
• Minimum two years of experience in policy analysis and legislative analysis.
