Your role: We have an exciting opportunity for a Health Reporter to join our award-winning Health team. We want the most talented and committed journalists and welcome applications from experts in the field. Working with a world-class team you will bring in great exclusives generate original story ideas while consistently beating the competition on the biggest breaking news stories.

Day to day you will:

  • Demonstrate a hunger to beat our rivals by breaking news and hunting down exclusive news stories and features for online print and Sun Club

  • Generate fresh ideas uncover compelling angles and spot talking points that will engage inform and surprise our readers

  • Write brilliant headlines in the famous Sun style and produce sparkling and clean copy to tight deadlines

  • Ensure all Health content is visually appealing through the use of graphics pictures video and interactive tools

  • Work as part of a team and constantly demonstrate an ability to adapt to find new ways to tell stories

What were looking for from you:

  • Experience of reporting at a national newspaper or major organisation is preferred

  • Exceptional writing skills coupled with a meticulous eye for detail

  • A passion for the health trends and issues and an understanding of the medical sphere

  • Enthusiasm imagination and a notebook full of ideas are all essential

  • A proven ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines with rigorous accuracy

  • A strong understanding of The Sun with the ability to write brilliant headlines in the famous Sun style and a sharp focus on attracting digital audiences and Sun Club subscribers

  • Proficiency in digital tools including video a deep knowledge of social media SEO and online publishing

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate relationships with colleagues sources and leading experts

  • Being a self-starter is key you will need to thrive under the pressure of a busy newsroom and be motivated to go above and beyond

  • A positive can-do attitude is essential you will need to be proactive use your initiative and work well as part of a team

  • Commitment to upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity and ethical reporting a thorough knowledge of the IPSO Code of Conduct media law and ethics

  • Willingness to work flexible hours over a seven-day rota pattern
