The instructional designer/developer for online teaching and learning will work with UTK instructional faculty interactive learning technologies team and the multimedia team to analyze design develop and evaluate quality online and hybrid courses and interactive learning experiences. The person in this position will help the university meet Chancellor Plowmans strategic goal of expanding educational opportunities beyond the Knoxville campus through the development and delivery of robust and engaging online programs and courses.
Collaborate with faculty instructors Interactive Learning Technologies and multimedia team members to develop courses in line with the universitys Engaged Online Course Initiative.
Manage instructional design projects to support the complete development of individual courses and program development; Develop multimedia products for online courses.
Develop highly engaging Interactive Learning Objects and Experiences using tools such as Articulate 360 H5P and Materia.
Collaborate with instructional designers and faculty to conceptualize and prototype interactive activities.
Manage eLearning development projects which support courses and programs within the online modality.
Develop pre-production materials such as flowcharts storyboard/scripts for eLearning projects.
Engage in professional development activities related to online and hybrid teaching and learning instructional design and educational technology in order to stay current in the field.
Education: Bachelors degree in Instructional Design Educational Technology Digital Media or related field (Masters preferred).
Experience:
Strong understanding and use of learning design principles including alignment of objectives assessments and interactive learning activities.
Experience applying instructional design models (e.g. ADDIE SAM or backward design).
Higher education course development and working directly with faculty.
Ability to consult with faculty to translate learning goals into engaging digital learning experiences.
Design and develop Interactive Learning Objects (ILO) using Articulate Storyline and Rise.
Support integration of ILOs within Canvas using SCORM or native embedding.
Strong understanding of online asynchronous and synchronous learning environments accessibility and UDL design.
Proficient in using Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Canvas including course setup and SCORM integration.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Proficiency in Articulate Storyline 360 and Articulate Rise 360 (2 years experience)
Experience with additional eLearning authoring tools such as: H5P Genially Materia.
Proficient with SCORM packaging testing and troubleshooting within LMS environments.
Experience with or understanding of SCORM API calls JavaScript customization within Articulate Storyline and/or Canvas API integration is a plus.
Ability to translate complicated information/processes into engaging training material.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience consulting with clients and other stakeholders.
Familiarity with media production workflows and asset integration (video audio animation).
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop Illustrator) preferable.
Strong visual design skillsability to apply layout color typography and UX/UI best practices.
Understanding of UX/UI concepts
Experience collaborating with graphic designers and media specialists to develop cohesive visual narratives.
