Position Summary

Why Its a great opportunity:In this role that is critical to supporting the Anderson and Ketron island communities you will use your technical and project management skills to support preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure the performance of the Pierce County ferry system. Extensive contract supervision vendor management and procurement will ensure timely ferry operations and will provide safe reliable and flexible multi-modal transportation options to over 450000 ferry riders annually. The Countys assets include three ferry terminals and two vessels. You will be joining a small and dedicated team supported by many PPW colleagues.

How to be successful in the role:Your success will ultimately come from timely ferry operations. The ability to collaborate and pull in team support while effectively planning procuring and overseeing contract requirements will further ensure your success.

Your future in this role:Throughout the onboarding process you will meet with the Director Ferry Administrator County Engineer and our maintenance and operations staff to define your role prioritize projects and outline the ferry maintenance program. You will have support from the leadership team regularly to discuss expectations set goals gain familiarity with current policies procedures and performance measures.

Core daily responsibilities:

  • Based on assets management systems plan the annual maintenance program for a major area(s) of a ferry maintenance program. Assess maintenance needs of ferry assets and evaluate the costs and benefits of maintenance options.
  • Oversee contractors and vendors engaged in a wide variety of tasks along partnerships with other divisions and external partners. Respond to urgent repair requests to prevent or recover from loss of service. Engage contractors and other PPW personnel as needed.
  • Assign plan schedule inspect and evaluate work of contractors and ensure contract terms are met.
  • Provide input monitor and adjust emergency response plans.
  • Analyze operating procedures and devise the most efficient methods of accomplishing work.
  • Record work accomplished fuel consumed equipment mileage accidents.
  • Develop adjust and monitor plans budgets and schedules for anticipated work and equipment; authorize purchases within limits of authority; may monitor or control budget for assigned program.
  • Meet with public agencies utility companies other municipalities or maintain favorable agency partnerships.
  • Ensure contractors and vendors are complying with applicable safety rules and regulations; inspect work zones and facilities for safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • Six years of progressively responsible work experience related to infrastructure maintenance.
  • Two years of lead or supervisory experience is required.
  • Related vocational training or education may substitute for up to two years of experience.
  • A valid Drivers License is required.
  • A resume and cover letter are required for this position.

Special requirements:

  • This position may be on call and require support during weekends and after normal working hours.
