Pipeline Medical is seeking a highly specialized Surescripts Integration Engineer to design build and implement a secure fully compliant integration with the Surescripts API. This contractor will lead the end-to-end development of our internal connector that enables our platform to receive electronic prescriptions (E-Scripts) directly from the Surescripts network. The ideal candidate has deep hands-on experience integrating with Surescriptsincluding certification testing security protocols and production deployment.
This is an exploratory niche and highly technical contract role intended to assess feasibility cost and implementation pathways. The engineer will work closely with leadership to translate requirements into a fully functional connector that supports the future growth of our Pharmacy Hub ecosystem.
Responsibilities
Lead the end-to-end development of a custom connector to the Surescripts API for receiving electronic prescriptions (E-Scripts).
Manage all Surescripts integration steps including onboarding certification testing documentation and compliance validation.
Implement secure HIPAA-compliant data handling and transmission protocols.
Architect and develop API endpoints data workflows and system integrations with internal platforms.
Troubleshoot debug and optimize performance of the Surescripts integration during development and deployment.
Collaborate with internal engineering product and leadership teams to align technical requirements with business needs.
Provide detailed documentation of code integration workflows and configuration settings.
Recommend best practices risks and long-term scalability considerations for ongoing Surescripts integrations.
Support internal QA testing and assist teams with validation of prescription data ingestion.
Requirements
Prior hands-on experience integrating directly with the Surescripts API including certification and production implementation.
5 years of experience in API development systems integration or backend engineering.
Strong knowledge of healthcare data standards: HL7 FHIR NCPDP SCRIPT (highly preferred).
Experience working in HIPAA-regulated environments with emphasis on secure data handling.
Proficiency with modern backend development languages and frameworks ( Python Java etc.).
Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP) and secure API architectures.
Ability to work independently and deliver project-based work with minimal oversight.
Strong documentation and communication skills.
Prior experience building connectors or integrations with EHR/EMR or pharmacy systems is a major plus.
Required Skills:
Pharmacy background: active pharmacist or pharmacy-technician license or 4 yrs hands-on experience in pharmacy sales operations compounding or pharmaceutical distribution. 4 yrs account-management / commercial operations experience in pharma medical-supply medical aesthetics or medical related fields. 2 yrs providing customer service to medical practices Advanced Excel/Sheets (look-ups pivots) and familiarity with CRM/ERP (NetSuite Salesforce ShipStation etc.). Proven history of exceeding revenue or satisfaction targets. Clear confident communicator able to make time-critical decisions with incomplete data.
