Sequoias Community College District is seeking qualified and equity-minded candidates to fill two full-time tenure-track positions in the Chemistry Department beginning August 2026. One position is located on the Tulare Campus. The second position may be assigned to classes on multiple campuses including Visalia Hanford and Tulare.


Assignments may include evening classes and teaching at any of the Sequoias Community College District Campuses: Visalia Hanford and/or Tulare. Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.


*College of the Sequoias offers lecture-lab pay parity as well as overload and large lecture compensation that may be additional.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Introductory Chemistry Chemistry for Allied Health Students and General Chemistry.

Other responsibilities include maintenance of office hours active engagement with campus culture participation in departmental responsibilities and the willingness to create and participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity which is respectful of diversity District wide.

Qualifications

The candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • Masters in chemistry OR
  • Bachelors in chemistry or biochemistry AND
  • Masters in biochemistry chemical engineering chemical physics physics molecular biology or geochemistry OR
  • The equivalent.

JOB REQUIRED CORE SYSTEM COMPETENCY

The candidate must also demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability gender identity sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students pursuant to Title 5 53022.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

The Science Division/Chemistry Department is looking for evidence of the following:

  • Teaching or instructional experience (broadly interpreted). May include courses taught at any level mentoring teaching assistant or laboratory instruction development of lectures laboratory activities syllabi or other instructional materials or coursework related to teaching.
  • Experience assessing progress relative to goals and working with a team to implement improvements
  • Experience and/or interest in building a chemistry program tailored to the needs of the students in the community which may include familiarity with the educational needs of students pursuing careers in STEM health science and/or agricultural careers.
  • Enthusiastic participation in professional responsibilities community and/or campus service.
  • Confidence to work independently but also able to coordinate with a team particularly one that is distributed over multiple locations.
  • Successful experience working with students from diverse backgrounds demonstrated through a commitment to valuing and promoting diversity equity and inclusion and by using a variety of teaching strategies and assessment methods that support student engagement and retention.
  • Experience with the community college environment and/or the culture of a primarily teaching institution
