The Public Works Department plays a key role in maintaining and improving the Citys infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for residents businesses and visitors. The department oversees streets traffic systems landscaping lighting water sewer and storm drains as well as City-owned facilities and vehicle fleets. Public Works also provides engineering environmental compliance and inspection services manages capital improvement projects and recycling programs and administers the Citys solid waste franchise. Committed to quality efficiency and sustainability the department helps build a safe resilient and thriving community.
Duties/Responsibilities
What Youll Do
As our new Wastewater Maintenance Worker you will:
- Operate and maintain a wide range of vehicles and equipment such as dump trucks backhoes vacuum trucks and sewer inspection tools.
- Assist in cleaning and maintaining sewer mains storm drains and lift stations using specialized equipment.
- Perform unskilled to skilled manual labor in maintaining and repairing streets sidewalks sewer systems traffic signs parks and more.
- Respond to emergency calls including placing barricades debris removal street sign replacement and urgent repairs.

Were looking for someone who:
Is knowledgeable in equipment operation techniques and methods used in the area of Wastewater Maintenance.
Understands traffic laws ordinances and City-mandated safety rules regulations and protocols.
Is excited by challenges loves to learn and thrives in a collaborative fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by specialized training in construction and maintenance work.
- Experience: Three (3) years of journey-level relevant maintenance experience.
- Licenses and Certifications (For part-time Wastewater Maintenance Worker only):Possession of a valid California Drivers License to be maintained throughout employment.
Special Requirements
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Mobility to work in the field and to perform medium to heavy physical work.
- Operate a motor vehicle and visit various community sites.
- Vision to inspect and operate equipment.
- Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
- The ability to lift carry push and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 50 pounds or heavier weights in all cases with the use of proper equipment and/or assistance from other staff.
