The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) performs a wide variety of patient care tasks utilizing a Patient Focused Care model. They follow standardized procedures prescribed in a clinical pathway including activities related to direct patient care diagnostic testing patient transport and documentation as directed by the RN. Essential job functions and responsibilities are as follows (but not limited to) Basic patient care vital signs EKG phlebotomy and communication. Teamwork is vital!

Qualifications

Educational / Minimum Requirements:

Highschool Diploma or equivalent (but not necessarily required)

Active NA certificate or (2) years of experience in a role as a PCA EDT or CNA in acute or long term care.

or

Basic Life Support (BLS) - Active CPR certificate required

or

3rd yr BSN student who was completed two clinical rotations

or

Medical AssistantorEMT Certification

Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:

General orientation at time of hire. Accucheck CPR Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually OCL Over-Dose Lavage PERT Restraint Protocol 1:1 Observation Protocol. Health Care

Provider CPR from American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer CPR by American Red Cross or other similar programs deemed appropriate by management. Additional cross-training as appropriate to perform diverse job duties. Successfully complete all training programs as determined by the Hospital. Other unit based competencies/skills as required.

Special Requirements:

Successfully complete unit based competency package plus unit specific items.

Physical Requirements:

Fast paced and variable patient care environment. Exposure to patient fluids and waste.
