TITLE: Physical Education Teacher
POSITION SUMMARY:
A health/physical education teacher develops and implements lesson plans aligned to the MA DESE Comprehensive Health and Physical Education Framework that promote wellness fitness and safety as well as assesses student progress. Core duties involve teaching students about health and physical activity creating a positive and inclusive learning environment and managing classroom and equipment needs. The role also requires strong communication with students families and colleagues and ongoing professional development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness health education and individual dual or team sports utilizing curriculum and other appropriate learning activities.
- Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
- Analyzes demonstrates and explains basic skills knowledge and strategies of formal sports games and fundamentals of body movement.
- Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly productive environment in the physical education areas.
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students prepares report cards and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports checklists census forms and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
- Maintains control of storage and use of school property.
- Evaluates each students growth in physical skills knowledge and contribution in team sports.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day. 13. Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Maintain appropriate licenses and training hours as required.
- Comply with applicable District state local and federal laws rules and regulations. 17. Adheres to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commissions for Competent and Ethical Educators.
- Adhere to all Oregon Administrative Rules related to licensed educators.
- Attend work regularly.
- Focus on making learning visible through effective student engagement.
- Work cooperatively with other team members to improve the instructional program. Effectively use technology to support effective instruction and student learning.
- Evaluate and differentiate student progress and adapt individual programs to meet student needs.
- ImplementDESE Comprehensive Health and Physical Education Framework with rigor purpose and planning.
- Assess student learning differentiate instruction accordingly.
- Create classroom environment conductive to student involvement.
- Promote high achievement expectations for students.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Principal(s).
SKILLS/ABILITY:
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Commitment to remain current in content and pedagogy.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:
- Massachusetts DESE Physical Education Certification required.
- Massachusetts DESE Health Education Certification preferred.
- Bachelors degree required Masters degree preferred.
SALARY: BTA
CLASSIFICATION: BTA Union
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
You are required to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion.
Must be able to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend sit or stand frequently.
